Even if he makes it to the playoffs in ok shape, when the physicality ramps up in the first round, how many games does he have before he's too banged up to be useful? I'd set the over/under on that at 2.5.

Tough to agree with Blaster, but reactionary does seem like the right term for this. The Jets have been patient in their team building, but like a lot of teams, as soon as the window looks open they lose all patience and make impulsive moves that they'll likely regret in the near future.
Have you seen their roster? They can't afford patience much longer. They have to pour gasoline on their current run. This roster is aging, but also just doesn't always gel consistently. This same team could easily look like last year's again next year. They have to push their chips in before they're into a retool.

Iafallo is 30, Niederreiter 31, Lowry 30, Namestnikov 31, Schmidt 32, Dillon 33, DeMelo 30, Hellebuyck 30, Brossoitt 30, Appleton 28, Toninato 29, Morrissey 28, Pionk 28, Ehlers 27, Connor 27.

Henrique is nothing special either. And we have no idea how much he'll cost.

You're arguing they panicked, based on the fact that you value Monahan lower than most people do - it's a baseless argument. What you should be arguing is: "Monahan sucks - stupid trade, Winnipeg!"

At least that argument is backed by your (extreme) opinion of the player.

I don't think he is. I do think he's better for what he's likely gonna cost.

I've changed from "panicked" to "reacted". Panic is too harsh. Reactionary trade is better. My argument is that Monahan is an injury risk who has not produced at this level in quite some time and is little more than a power play merchant. If he gets hurt, returns to his new normal or doesn't click with the Winnipeg power play, he's a real bad add.

There is the cap to consider. Monahan at full price has a smaller cap hit than Henrique with 50% retained.

I don't see this Treliving unhinged view that many do. I see a GM that thought his team could compete finding a replacement for the other core forward he lost in Gaudreau walking away.

Many pundits had the Flames as one of the team's to beat, so he wasn't that far off the "expert" view.

Didn't work out, but it's hardly the mad scientist angle that many are taking.

Nor do I buy the guy looking to leave screwing his team suggestion. He wanted to stay but they chose Sutter.
Thats the unhinged part of it, in my view. Trying to replace Gaudreau in such a way like its franchise mode on NHL 23.

Jets should have bucked up for Lindy, would have been a better fit and they already gave up their first...........................................

I think they thought Conroy was bluffing when saying the deal was going down now.

The downfall of Tre in my opinion happened because of two reasons. After Johnny left he felt immense pressure from ownership to fix this mess and remain competitive. As a result he made several bad decisions in an attempt to ensure the club remained competitive and pushed for a playoff spot.

Secondly, he seems to be a guy who made decisions with the mindset of "I'm the boss." Conroy alluded to this in previous interviews as well. I'm not saying he didn't consult with his staff, but ultimately made moves under this premise. In a way you can understand that a GM can't have decision paralysis and makes the final call either way, but perhaps others were against these moves (for obvious reasons) and he decided against their advice.

Vancouver wanted to send Zadorov back lol. He is their 6th dman
Flames point pace with Zadorov in the lineup: 82 points
Without: 82 points

Canucks pace without Zadorov: 112 points
With: 126 points

This is quite possibly the world's stupidest analysis and proves nothing. But if you believe it is worth something, these are the actual numbers.

Also, I think Tre (and maybe ownership too) took Gaudreau leaving and Tkachuk's declaration of leaving personally. The hockey world were laughing at Calgary. He wanted to not only get new players but sign them to long term deals to prove that Calgary is a desirable place to play long-term.

Absolutely, and maybe not developing a reputation as a place that players don't want to sign with or play in is worth something significant.

Chevy is also notoriously protective of prospects he likes...it's quite possible they didnt want to move a Brzustewicz type prospect.

Who said anything about Vancouver...thanks for proving his loss hasn't changed the Flames as far as wins and losses.

If it's such a bad argument dont waste your life looking at stats. I think the guy is ridiculously overrated. 100% the Canucks don't sign him they are already trying to move on.

All in all, I love that this has happened to Monny. If anything, it shows how well he's respected and deserving. He's a great player and human being. At my second Flames Poker tourney, he signed my jersey and then we talked for about 45 mins. The next year he literally came up to me, said hi and we shot the sh* for about a half hour. Just amazing.

It's hard for me to choke this down, but now I have a reason to root for the Jets. (Never once have I said that). But really, it'll just be for him. (Cause I hate the Jets)

“Don’t waste your life looking at stats”. So you claim Monahan is “clearly better” than Lindholm because he has more goals? That’s the only argument I have heard you put forward.

So who was the Flames best defenseman last year?

It sounds like the flames viewed kuzmnko as a big positive asset.

It's possible that the Jets ponied up a big offer like a 1st+lambert+

But the flames preferred the canucks offer
