Norman Jewison, director of Fiddler on the Roof, In the Heat of the Nigh , and Moonstruck - among MANY others - has died at 97.

Not to be crass, but I'm less surprised about Norman Jewison's death and more surprised he was still alive. 97 is a pretty good run for anyone.

Ditto.

I read that and my first thought was: "Norman Jewison was still alive?"

RIP. But he made it a long way.

I only knew he was still alive because like 2 days ago, a story about him came up in my feed. I guess the word must have been out that he was being called soon.

It's been a rough year for nonagenarian directors who are Jewish or have Jew in their name.

In 1993 I was graduating at the UofC with a B.Comm. with a fairly large class of others in that program. They were giving an Honorary Doctorate to Norman Jewison and during his speech he was going on about how we should be directing more tax dollars to Canada’s entertainment and film industries because that was were the future was the brightest etc. The entire Faculty of Business was shocked at such claims.

German music producer Frank Farian - founder of the disco band Boney M - has died at the age of 82, according to his family.
They released a statement on Tuesday via Farian's agency saying he had passed away at his home in Miami.
Boney M, which formed in 1976, had a string of hit singles including Daddy Cool, Rasputin and Mary's Boy Child.
Farian also went on to found the duo Milli Vanilli, who were involved in a lip-synching controversy.
....
He also worked with the likes of Meat Loaf and Stevie Wonder and is reported to have sold an estimated 800 million records worldwide.
....
In 2022, Farian revealed he had undergone heart surgery and had a pig heart valve inserted, which he said saved his life.

This one kind of hurts. Melanie Safka has passed away at age 76. When I was child, my mother was a huge fan and always played her music. It was on my regular rotation from the time I was born. One of my earliest memories in life was laying on the bed watching my mother sing to it while folding laundry.

The Ukrainian-American singer performed at Woodstock and saw a resurgence in popularity in the 1990s when Boogie Nights came out and the song "Brand New Key" became the Roller Girl theme song. She also did a great cover of the Rolling Stones "Ruby Tuesday". I just loved her sweet voice and how quickly she could switch to just belting it out at high volumes.
