Sure, just like Beauviller was an asset and not a cap dump. Kuzmenko was not a target in this deal. Vancouver had to move salary out and taking Kuzmenko's salary was a requirement to move this forward. That is a salary dump no matter which way you spin this. Could he be a good reclamation project? Yes. Is he worth a gamble. Also yes. Is he a cap dump. A resounding yes.

The Hunter kid sounds awesome, so that's the piece I'm most excited about. But to also get a 1st and a conditional 4th, too? Bravo, Conroy!

No, Kuzmenko needs to score to have any value. A struggling Kuzmenko does not fetch anything close to a 1st. He doesn’t do anything else well

What are the odds Kuzmenko gets flipped at the deadline?

We won't know who won this trade for years, we certainly don't know today.

It is definitely a solid return, hopefully the prospects all end up in the NHL (along with whoever they pick with the 1st). Beyond that, patience is required.

I'd always bet on defenseman who put up big points in junior as non-overagers just on principal.

Here's an article about how we was highly touted going into the US junior program but got injured right as he started with the under 17s and ended up dropping down the depth chart when he was finally able to return - https://t.co/d064dcnJO6

Semantics here, I think. But IMO, 'cap dump' is a player of no value, who you have to pay, to get another team to take them off your hands and free up some space.

Is he worth $5.5M? No, certainly not the way he is playing right now. But I think Mangiapane is a good comparable - a guy not earning his cap hit, but a player none the less. And a player who, as a pending UFA, will generate a return at the deadline (being next year for Kuzmenko).

For me, that is not a cap dump.

This year? Pretty low.

Next year? Pretty high.

Can't know what the assets will turn into, but there wasn't a better deal available. For that, he's already won. Remains to be seen how it all plays out.

yeah, I can't see them selling CGY to Kuzmwnko and makinh him waive his NTC, just immediately flip him again. The smart play is to give him top minutes, boost his value and trade him at next year's deadline.

Nobody should be cheering for Vancouver to far enough to meet the conditions on the 4th/3rd pick.

What I am cheering for is that the Flames lobbed an apparent dressing room grenade in the form of Zadorov, and hopefully now Lindholm gets in there and just messes everything up for them. They have 71 points right now - here is to hoping that they finish with 71 points, and the Flames will take the 7th overall pick (what it would have been last season). Yes, incredibly optimistic, but I sure feel better cheering for that.

So it's a 29-32 OA plus a 93-96 OA.

Or it's a 26-28 OA plus a 110-115 OA

Yes, but he's already waived once, and if it isn't working out for him in Calgary, there is little reason for him to feel unwilling to move on.

Its always hilarious to read the takes, its always the same people.

Luckily Spurs is still banned I hope, or we would have had 95 pages of him telling us why everything sucks.

Nothing the Flames do will ever be good to some people.

I am kind of excited to see what Kuzmenko can do with us. He was a highly sought after player when he was a free agent, and the fact he waived to come here says something.

I don't think the 12 team no trade list will really matter at next year's trade deadline. Most teams on that list will be teams in rebuilds or teams that don't look like potential winners. I would be surprised if next deadline, assuming that Kuzmenko is doing well, that he would even need to be consulted on if he is willing to waive. I mean, maybe he puts Vancouver on it due to the incompatibility he just experienced with Tocchet, but that's about it from teams that one could expect to be a potential buyer next season.

As opposed to Edmonton, for whom I wish to make the playoffs, get the hype up to a 13, then have them lose 4 straight in the first round.

Again.

Or we could be an intermediary to retain in a three-way deal.
