Yep, and the Flames still have time to see where Sharangovich and Kuzmenko fit in for the future, and if not they might be trade bait for next years TDL
So far Sharangovich has done nothing but increase his overall value since coming to the Flames. Hopefully Kuz does the same.

Wonder if Conroy will pull the Gaudreau move on Brzustewicz and fly him in on the private jet to play the last couple games of the NHL season if the flames are out to get him signed if the Rangers season ends. Seems like a real solid trade but long run signing him and Kuzmenko putting up some points and being flipped next season for some good value would really cement that

I'm not upset about the return, I'm in fact overjoyed. As the same with the Tkachuk trade, now is the time to get rid of these roster players like Kuzmenko. Retain and get something good. Trade him to Las Vegas or Edmonton to make them mad.

Unless the flames use a retention slot on him I don't see anybody taking on his deal until next deadline right now. Plus I don't think the flames are ready to fully burn it down, seems like they still want to be as competitive as possible

We were all anticipating this Lindy move for the entertainment/hope that it would provide.
Let's not soil it with less fun things.

The double icing would be Lindy actually the double agent for us and sign back here in the off season?

Wasn't VAN's PDO really high to start the year? They're due to comeback down to earth, right?
It would also be funny if the Flames managed by some miracle to scratch and claw their way back into the playoffs, and beat VAN as the 8th seed team in the first round.

As a prospect in 2018 Andersson was an honourable mention (so not in the top 100 in the league), he was well behind Kylington, Valimaki and Mangiapane from the Flames. He ranked him behind such d-men as Jokiharju, Boqvist, Merkley, Liljegren, Meyers, TSmith, Brannstrom, Bode Wilde, etc etc etc. He has some other big misses in his predictions in that year as well - he didn’t like Fox much, and ranks Yamamoto and Bouchard way too high. He way overrated Mittelstadt, Borgstrom, Vilardi etc. He underrated Makar and Heiskenan.

That was my reaction as well. I just find that I disagree with almost everything I see from him. And as some have said, it is hard not to feel that he has some kind of hate on for the Flames - it's like he's a closet Oiler fan and just can't escape his bias, or something.

I think that the additions of Brzustewicz of Jurmo fill a gap in the system, so that is a big positive. No bluechip prospects, but fills gaps. The first is going to help if they can turn that into a solid prospect. There's potential here.

I thought you were the guy telling people to temper their expectations? I think Conroy's patience is creating a little bit of a bidding war which is causing teams to make some decisions. This is good news considering at the beginning of the year there was talk that Conway was being low balled.

I'm actually pretty happy with the deal. Addresses an organizational need in a big way, so it's a good deal. I'm not going go overboard and saw what a massive steal it is, because it isn't. There is nothing guaranteed in this deal to make the Flames better. It is all futures at this point, but that's okay.

Conroy did better than everyone expected.
|
Not everyone. There were lots of people posting trades where bluechip prospects or young performing roster players were being moved in trade. So those expectations were not met in any way. We didn't see a Wallinder or Lekkerimaki dealt our way.
Quote:
I’d argue Brzu is a B+, VERY close to an A- prospect with the D+1 he’s having.
|
Argue away. He was drafted in the third round for a reason. He's a smallish defenseman who is pass first. Not a great shot, but an incredible passer. A player that not many on the board had heard of before the trade and a guy that didn't even make the Canucks top 15 prospects in their prospect review by The Hockey Writers for a weak Vancouver prospect pool. Still lots to prove for this kid, even with posting gaudy numbers in the OHL. Has a particular skillset the team needs but has a long path to the NHL. Still see him as a "B" level prospect, even with the scoring exploits, and that's okay. "B" level prospects can surprise and turn into core players if things go right.

It sounds like a great trade for Calgary and that’s really exciting but for me most of all it’s the clarity on strategic direction that I like the most.
This trade is consistent with what I believe they need to do to get the team back to a contending level and I know it kills them to use the word “rebuild” but this trade really cements that they’re doing that.
I know others have said the previous trades did that, or suggested that strategy too, but I dunno, to me- this one really seals it.
It’ll be exciting to see what they get for the rest of the UFAs and (IMO) as well, Markstrom should also be dealt.
