So you similarly also wouldn’t have an issue if your coworker, or somebody working for you, used those kind of terms in conversation with clients?

You carry yourself with a higher degree of professionalism and yet you can't see the difference between what hardcore soccer fans spew at a sports event and the vernacular used in a professional setting?
Have you heard some of things the hardcores shout at soccer games?

Sorry, the civilized conversation and etiquette displayed by hockey and football fans is far more couth. My apologies.

I'd rather suck on the business end of a rifle that pay to watch paint dry.
I've attended Old Trafford, once, and needed to be on the piss to not fall asleep, sadly Cantona didn't do a flying drop kick

It's not that I can't see the difference between the situations, and that just seems obvious. But here's the part that I find interesting...we both hear those things and don't bat an eye (I'm assuming on your behalf...so go ahead and crucify me for that assumption) in one context. In the other context though, I'm supposed to climb aboard my high horse and act like my virgin ears are aghast because he used this phrase?

I let him take his shots at soccer, because I played rugby for years (and yeah rugby is the far better sport, without question!), but he can't possibly be such a prude that this phrase would offend him. That doesn't mean he's throwing it around in professional settings, but I'm sure he's heard far worse.

Using one's brain would have lead us to keeping the compostable option (recycled paper bags) at no charge instead of trying to get everyone to use the more environmentally-taxing reusable bag option thinking that was somehow a better idea, but hey, clearly we're talking about climate emergencies on a micro and not a macro level. The pollution and energy expenditure from making plastic and cloth reusable bags happens over in China, so we're okay, air doesn't circulate or anything. Clearly council couldn't think of anything not stupid to do with their time and our money, so they did something the dumbest way possible.

It is all about the setting.
Having pints with the lads, ok.
Having pints with clients, not ok.
In a formal work meeting, definitely not ok.
Chu uttered it in a formal work meeting, definitely not ok.

This has nothing to do with personally being offended by that statement. I'm not. I've heard it used before, over beers, after work, and in private settings. You're moving your own goal posts in this weird stance you're taking.
I'm telling you, that phrase is not appropriate in professional settings, particularly when a politician on the taxpayer dime is saying this phrase in a setting that is ill appropriate. And I say that, with the support of many others, that this isn't in the normal lexicon of words used in a professional setting. Maybe you're the exception, but you're certainly not the rule.
Anyway, let's get back to arguing about plastic straws and bags and how it's an absolute outrage. Priorities, right?

The entire word salad statement Chu read from his phone was offensive. You really think he's serving his constituents best when spouting as many conservative buzz words as possible into one paragraph? It was a waste of good oxygen.

I had a bit of a laugh at Gondek sounding like whenever you piss off your spouse; "if you don't know what you did, I'm not going to tell you".
Chu's still a moron. God damn I hate this council so much. I can think of maybe four that I don't find completely regrettably choices.

Yeah. Two things can be true at once, and Chu being a knuckle-dragging idiot doesn't stop Gondek from being a grandstanding incompetent. Hopefully they're both looking for new employment after the next election.
Edited to Add: surely Chu can't be tone-deaf enough to run again can he?

Why would Chu "learn a lesson" from any of this when enough voters are telling him it's not important enough haha.
