Markstrom - I don’t mind them asking if he will waive if a deal comes along. He shouldn’t be pressured hard on it though.

Look at that. 22 random-ish data points (season finish is random now?) between 1 and 30/32, averages them, and discovers the average is 22nd (21.636)! How could 15 not be the answer??? Because the Bruins aren't average and don't try to be average?

Hey, way to find an outlier! You're really putting on a statistical show here!
(still completely missed why your point was useless though)

It's definitely difficult when you have a new baby - not entirely unheard of though.
I have no doubt that the Flames would only approach Markstrom to waive if a) they think he might be open to it and b) it is a destination that he might, in fact, consider.
But new opportunity is exciting. Being in demand is exciting. It is human nature to be interested, if the opportunity is an enticing one.

I don't think it's as sensational as finding a trade then asking the player to waive. I think they ask Markstrom what he wants to do before Conroy is talking trade. Markstrom has control and it's in both parties best interest to have the discussion.

One child at a time is easy. It may not feel like it at times but then people you know end up with triplets and its like yeah, I'm good.

3 players (Hanifin, Tanev and Lindholm) out at the deadline would be huge. It would be really surprising if they got more then that done at the deadline.
It takes alot of work to put together these trades, especially if they're big multi year contracts with trade protection involved.
I could see another trade or two in the offseason though.

So 40 days until deadline and our 3 UFAs are in top 5 in trade lists.
When do you expect the first trade will happen? And who will be the first guy traded from the team?
I think Tanev will be traded after all star break for a 2nd and conditional 5th with salary retention.

Look at the flames first round draft choices for the last 15-20 years. A lot of swing and misses.

I often don't get peoples love of late first rounders as you will be trading with good teams, they will be pick 20+. You have to go back really to 2015 to see a draft with multiple decent players that were in that range of picks.

The Flames have been one of the best drafting teams since 2015. Just haven't had enough picks.
They need to get more shots to hit the bullseye. There are always good D-men and goaltenders in that range. Also the feasibility to trade down.

Doubt that. I think if Tanev goes it will be closer to the deadline and I believe he can fetch a late 1st.

Yeah, you can never get a Backlund in that range. Or Zary, forget about it.
That is one of the most desirable assets to possess.

I keep saying it, Flames need to load up on draft picks.
Get so many of them that the league just puts their draft table on the stage for the next three drafts in order to save time.

What would it take the flames to flip Sharky at this deadline?
I imagine there would be interested teams given his production, age, salary and having a extra year of term.
If the Avs offered you Calum Ritchie for Sharky would you take it?
What if someone offered use a 1st + 2nd + 3rd for Sharky?
Or are these prices completely unrealistic?
I'm looking at deals like Toffoli (to calgary), Barbashev and Jeannot.
Would make the Toffoli tade to NJD an absolute homerun.

I would take either of those deals but it would have to be that much to make me want to see it happen. I don't think anyone is offering that much this year just because he needs to show how good he is for a longer period of time.

So, we trade them for soda pop?
Contenders don’t often trade premium NHL ready prospects as they need those exact players to keep cap down in the future.

Explain it to me. If finishing place in the standings year-to-year is not the absolute measure of mediocrity, then what is? It is not like all teams are going to regress to the mean, which is what you seem to be suggesting, as there are well run teams that perform well year-to-year, and poorly run teams which are going to draft early year-to-year and continue to fail. All will experience outliers, good and bad, but well run organizations will finish higher more regularly than poorly run organizations.

The team will know first hand how hungry Markstrom is to be competitive. I imagine it’s high, being at the tail end of his career without a cup. I don’t see the NMC as an issue, as I don’t believe the team really wants to trade him anyway… but the assets are obviously needed, and we likely aren't contending during his contract.
