If they got Lundell for Hanifin that'd be fantastic. I want that more than anything.
There's potential to retool real quick with these rumors. And make the team better over the long term.

Quick retool’s do not happen with Dennis Gilbert as your 4th dman.

Well sure but UFAs don’t get back better players. I don’t mind Lundell versus a late 1st

Lundell is maybe an eventual Backlund replacement but that's not really high priority in my view. You don't need to plan a year in advance for your 3rd line C replacement. They should aim higher.

Aim higher?
The only aim higher is to tank for a high lottery pick
They ain’t going to get a blue chip or high lottery pick for these rentals

And sometimes those 3rd line 2 way players end up being good 2nd line centers. He would be a great add for Noah

Which was my point from the very start. Flipping Hanifin for Lundell isn't going to make a re-tool quick. It's a decent move but likely a lateral move at best. I was responding to the post specifically talking about a quick retool.

That would make me happy though, especially if the 1st was unprotected by some miracle. I'd imagine the Flames would have to retain on Tanev for sure, and also take back a contract like Vanacek to make the cap work.

I mean, it's pure balderdash, fan stuff. A rumour/proposal like that from a "website" is meaningless and not worth discussing on any level.

And look at you quoting it and discussing how it's not worth discussing.

I mean it is absolutely a fan fiction "rumor". My question would be why he didn't say where he heard it and why you didn't ask where he heard it. That's critical, or otherwise it's just lost in a sea of social media attention grabbing rumors that plague the internet.

I don't care. This is the place for "fan fiction"
People literally make their own proposals in this thread all the time and then they get discussed.
Just move along if you don't like it. What's the point of even questioning it? These last few posts by the two of us are way more useless to everybody here than the earlier one I made that you decided to whine about.

I guess I just like legit rumors/realistic proposals. The fan fiction stuff that will never, ever see the light of day takes up way too much room in terms of discussion on this board, imo.

He has 2.5 years of NHL experience and seems to be trending into a 30-some point player. He might start putting up 40 point seasons as a 23-25 year old but no guarantees. It's fine. I think Hanifin is a little better than that player.
It's not a rental if they talk extension which is what insiders have been saying about a Hanifin trade

There could be multiple reasons, here’s two.
Markets they’ll send him Calgary won’t without overpayment. IE Edmonton/Toronto
Retention is a limited commodity per team.
However I presume it’s more likely they want the calming presence with their young D.

Why would Calgary care about trading him to Toronto? He’s a rental and they aren’t in the same division.
Every team has three retention slots. Lindholm, Hanifin and Tanev. I don’t think they’re too worried about it.

Sens have to do something...every summer its oh, watch out for those Sens, so many shrewd moves.
Their top players are on or entering their 2nd deals and they are still bottom of the league

IMO goaltending sunk their season.
Ottawa has a bunch of good pieces. They're going to cash in on Tarasenko at the deadline, whom they signed as an UFA.
Ottawa was/is bleeding assets in attempts to speed up the rebuild. First with DeBrincat, and now most likely with Chychrun. Before that they did something similar with Duchene.
Also, there are some younger players struggling to play up to their big contract. Most notably Norris after his injury, and Chabot after his injuries. They also missed Pinto for half a season.

Ottawa is exhibited A for what happens when you try to speed up a rebuild and also don’t acquire a franchise player by truely bottoming out
They have a lot of very good players but they don’t have a true number 1 D or a superstar Center
They have tried to take the next step by bleeding pics and assets and failed
This is actually why it so important to bottom right out - Detroit and Ottawa have never gotten the superstar (or 2) needed to take the next step IMO
