We'll maybe have to wait for some details, but to me the real question is "why"?

As much as I don't trust this government to do the right thing in regards to parks, the explanations mostly seem to make sense for why they're doing it.

It's sad that I read that and it all makes good rational sense, but then I still don't trust it at all until I get confirmation from outside the government for what it actually means.

Basically, it's up to the people in each area to identify to the public if this is the first step to something UCP-ee, but generally there is nothing to see here. By changing the designations to 'public lands' it just means that they could act in the future, but there doesn't seem to be anything actually happening right now, except for one roadway going through.

The above press release does spend a lot of time on historical changes as opposed to what they just did right now, which comes across as super sketchy. The babying form of 'asking and answering questions' in a press release just makes it sound like they are giving us the information 'that we can handle' as opposed to just giving us the information. I hate that.

I wonder if public land means the same as crown land, and the big change would be that you can set of fireworks and firearms in the parks, now?

I agree that they're just putting out the questions that they have good answers to for why they did what they did. I'll probably just wait to see if any of the local communities start complaining about the change before I say whether it was good or bad.

I did enjoy how they explained how big the land was that they decommissioned in the last question

I don’t know where to put this, but we often end up with healthcare discussions here. I just want to say, my experience with the system this week has been nothing short of excellent. I booked an appointment last week with my family doctor, and I’ll just I was concerned about my blood pressure (I take it at home and it seemed like a lot of higher readings). She set me up with a 24 hour monitor that I used and returned and I had full results from the doctor within an hour and a half.

To me, that’s exactly how the system should operate.

One of the worst countries in the world came up with a new execution method today. Congrats, America. Useless yokels.

Whoops. That was meant for the US thread obviously. I’ll go back to my hole now.

It is. But there’s a huge wave of family doctors retiring - including mine and my mom’s - with nobody stepping in to replace them. I’m facing the prospect that as I get into my 50s and need a family doctor more than ever, I may never have one again. I can see a future in Canada where the whole idea of family doctors seems as quaint as doctors making house calls.

Big announcement by Shoppers Drug Mart yesterday. Opening 100+ in-store pharmacy care clinics to provide publicly-funded basic primary care. I don't hate the idea for things I would typically go to a walk-in clinic for but it wouldn't be a substitute for a GP when it comes to managing my health.

The age/retirement issue should have been an easily avoidable one because demographics are well known and it doesn't come as surprise that older people need more care. But the governments across the country plus the medical establishment didn't adequately plan for the future.

My industry is like that as well where there are a lot of boomers who are at retirement age and not many Gen X/Millennials around to take over. Fortunately the geosciences side of the O&G industry has slowed down considerably and technology has made it easier to work with a smaller headcount so the impact isn't as severe.

Critics, including some doctors, are troubled to see the government touting pharmacies as an alternative to medical care.

"Pharmacists are not physicians," said Dr. Jon Meddings, a University of Calgary professor of medicine, gastroenterologist, and past dean of the Cummings School of Medicine. "This is just a disaster waiting to happen."
Quote:
Chris Gallaway, executive director of Friends of Medicare, says patients are best served by primary health clinics, which can direct them to the right health professional.
As corporations step in to capitalize on gaps in the public health-care system, Gallaway worries pharmacies may try to sell patients other products while they seek medical care.

"People don't always know what is covered or isn't or what fees should or shouldn't exist," he said.

Cool stuff. Why are tax dollars funding a private corporation's push for profits again? oh ya, 'berta.

If it is good enough for BC, it is good enough for us.
