Another reason the timing is curious. Pospisil is out, so even just give him the couple weeks and then ****can him. At least let him peek out of the basement of the 4th line.
Anyway yeah. Not a big deal, it just kind of seemed unnecessary right now.

Is Cory Stillman still there in some capacity?
If so, I’d wager he was the driving force behind the pickup.

Valimaki plays most of his TOI with Dumba and Stecher. He is tied with Stecher for 4th amongst D in ATOI. His advanced stats and xG show his as their 4/5.
There's nothing to dispute about Valimaki not being a 4/5 defenseman this season on a team that's over 0.500

Decided to check. Valimaki played over 24 minutes tonight and led the team in icetime.

At least I don’t have to hear Kelly pronounce Ruzicka’s name anymore. Drove me bonkers.

Thanks for looking that up, petty much rolling 3 pairs.
He's a decent defenseman that needs a swift kick in the pants now and then to get/stay motivated.
I'm with @boogerz don't get the fuss about someone playing well for another team. This was win-win in my books.

Perhaps i'm always a little too optimistic that the player will eventually figure it out between the ears and he will take a step forward...so in that fact I'm sad to lose out on the player figuring it out here.

He took the easy way out on pretty much every shift.
Wrong side of the support.
Angle to the forecheck to avoid getting their first.
Just a hugely frustrating player to watch.

I couldn’t care less if an ex-Flame plays well for another team. I don’t think it’s Valimaki, that’s all. The issue was more - was there some sort of major error in waiving him 2 years ago that’s coming home to roost because they just waived DeSimone who got claimed, or something.
I mean, does Boston stay up nights thinking about how AJ Greer is playing a great steady role (until last night) in Calgary and already has more goals than all of last year (or any previous year)?

Not AJ because he is a scrub
But I am sure it would bother them if someone they waived went on to become a good player. That means they made a huge mistake.

All teams make mistakes with players. The fact Boston drafted Senyshyn and Zboril and DeBrusk instead of much better players doesn't appear to have them losing much sleep, either.

Greer is better than a scrub. One of the more consistent players all year. he’s a good 4th line player on most teams. And Valimaki is a bottom pairing Dman on any decent team.

Even Paul Byron, who people point to as a waiver mistake, did have a couple good years and then was promptly signed to a contract he wasn’t worth and declined rapidly.

This is a fair point, but its not like 3.4M is a crippling cap hit. Not to mention they signed him when he was 31, so basically they knew it would be diminishing returns.

Yeah, but the point is who cares that he did better in a bigger role somewhere else. He didn’t fit here. Just like Valimaki, Ruzicka, etc.

I agree, they are not the difference between championships and first round exits. As important as depth is, teams live and die by their top guys, and they Flames just ain't got one.

What about Huberdeau.
You defend him daily but how is the fit in Calgary?

If they could gt someone to take Huberdeau on waivers he'd be gone but that isn't an option

You also can't waive a player with a NMC without his consent.
