There were only three '99s on the 2018 team...one of them was playing in Europe but one of the other ones is currently playing on an AHL contract (he is an NHL free agent) for the unaffiliated Chicago Wolves.
Is it possible that one of the leaves announced this week (maybe...most likely the one citing mental health) isn't one of the five and that maybe it's another player?

Only 5 being charged so maybe one of the remaining 3 is 1999
5 being charged, 5 taking leave
Is it possible one guy keeps playing through all this?

Is it not possible that 1 doesn't want to go on leave, or simply hasn't done it yet?
5 being charged, and 5 (so far) being on leave, is not proof they they are the same 5. Is it likely that they are very similar, and quite possibly the same? Of course. But that is not proof of anything yet.

What would you charge them with. Forming a NDA and handing out money?

But Dusty Nickel is on the list.

2) He was the one that went into the room, and went back out.
3) He only heard about it when it was happening, but didn't go into the room at all and was not a part of it.
4) He didn't know about anything until after the fact.
5) He was working with law enforcement and was the one providing the most information about what happened.
How sure is anyone here about where Dube fits? I have absolutely not idea, and I am going to wait until we know who the 5 are.
When these 5 (and potentially more?) idiots are charged, tried and convicted, I hope they all get really tough sentences as to make examples out of them. Maybe then - MAYBE - some of this 'hockey culture' crap will change. FFS, at least I hope that Hockey Canada gets rid of their hush-money payment war chest and stops protecting the guilty.
If Dube is one of the guilty parties, he is dead to me, should be tarred and feathered and I will have my pitchfork out. Until then, I am just quietly sharpening it for whomever the 5 are (plus 3?? sounds like not enough evidence to be charged).
As the upcoming trial unfolds, I assume that definitive names and actions will come out of this. We will know exactly who did what, and who didn't.
As for the Flames, maybe they knew and maybe they didn't. If I am Dube, I am not telling them exactly what is going on. They can connect the dots, but if they were wrong, that will give them a real bad look as an organization that wasn't supporting a player in crisis, especially if he was troubled with being the informant (just in case that was his role to play). At this point, unless the Flames definitively knew one way or the other, I don't judge them at this time for their statement.
Throw people under the bus only when we are sure about them. Sometimes the damage is too great and permanent to recover from if we are wrong. Retractions don't make for as big of headlines as scandals do.
I just hope that when everything comes out, this story will be taught to every kid on team Canada - and beyond - because the consequences were so severe.

Unless a player who witnessed the assault has cooperated or if the police uncovered damning text messages or something similar, I doubt we’ll ever know if Dube did it or not, even if he is charged. Nor do I foresee the trial definitively confirming who did what. We’ll hear two sides and have to decide what to believe.

I’ve read this thread, but not all the other previous discussion. For all the over analysis and dissection of the flames comment on this I’m surprised the same hasn’t been done for Dube’s comments from a few years ago. Maybe I missed this discussion, but wasn’t he one of the only ones to actually make a candid comment and not some press release babble? Between that and his agents comments is what I’m trying to parse. Really not trying to just assume the worst, but it is getting more difficult.

Of course they are not proof. Even the number 5 is just a reported number.
But the odd is good that they are the 5 until further development

He was one of a handful to not explicitly say he wasn’t involved in his release through his agent.

If any of the rumored 5 were not being charged their agent certainly would have made a statement
You think Dube is on mental health leave and not involved , coincidentally at the same time as this , and his agent wouldn’t make a statement to the press saying Dube hasn’t been charged / isn’t involved ?
Seriously ? They put out a press statement saying it wasn’t substance abuse related , but would stay quiet on sexual assault rumours ?

If they are found guilty then they are guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. If not, they aren't. I won't be deciding who to believe.

Would be interested to see this. I recall thinking Dubé was silent when the story first surfaced and many players were immediately disassociating themselves from it. That said, I wasn’t following it very closely.

Once more for the hard-of-reading or comprehension: the players have NOT been named as of yet, and the public has ZERO right to know.
As of today, in reality it's all speculation.

Surprised the media isn’t stationed in London waiting for any of their arrivals. Would make for a good story from an up and coming reporter with footage of their arrival at the police station.
