I think losing DeSimone for nothing stings when it looks like he has room to grow and few are fond of Oesterle’s game this season.

Potentially the only offers Conroy had would have had him taking money back in the deal. Not worth getting worked up about this.

Outrage isn't the right word. Confused is more apt, at least for me.

He has produced consistently when given an opportunity to do so. Those opportunities were just few and far between.

Ruzicka played over 14 minutes in a game just 15 times over the past two years combined and scored 12 points in those games. (66 point pace)
He played 29 games with over 12 minutes of icetime and recorded 19 points in those games. (54 point pace)
He played 35 games with under 10 minutes of icetime and recorded 1 point in those games. (3 point pace)

To put that in perspective Zary alone has hit the 14:00 minute mark 28 times this season alone (19 points), and has never seen less than 10 minutes of icetime at any point. That's an opportunity.

Conroy is apparentely scrounging the league for young NHL roster players who may be in need of more opportunity (similar to Sharangovich). To me we had one right under our noses.

So the evidence for this year is that Conroy and Huska have been perfectly willing to give opportunities to younger players - Zary, Pospisil, Coronato, Sharangovich being examples (as well as Klapka and Schwindt on lower lines). And they've decided that Ruzicka could be waived after seeing him in practice and in 39 games. To me it's obvious what the conclusion from that is.

Ruzicka had more chances than most. Kid never put it together.

Ruzicka is 24, 114 NHL games 40 points. Could we blossom into a bigger piece? Maybe, but the Flames have a bloated middle 6, and he in no way earned a spot higher on the team. I hope he does well, I always liked him as a prospect, but his initial scouting report still rings true, all the skill in the world, but no consistency.

I find this argument similar to the chicken or the egg. What came first?

Did Ruzicka get to play over 14 mins because he was producing, or was he producing thanks to the increased ice time?

The reason Zary is getting the minutes when he isn't producing points is because of his play defensively, and because he's making (smart)plays even when he isn't scoring. I didn't see Ruzicka make enough good plays when the production dries up, and he isn't 'feeling it'.

I agree that the 4th line is getting very little minutes under Huska, so it's more difficult for them to get going, but they don't generate nearly enough momentum for the team to earn more ice time.

So, 2 guys in 9 years - and the Flames gained some players from waivers, over that same period. I am not seeing a crisis of asset management here.

Also, 'Treliving/Conroy regime', really? Are we going to try and lay some blame on Conroy, for Paul Byron being put on waivers, one year into Conroy's position as AGM?

Those younger players were also not competing with Backlund, Kadri, and Lindholm for icetime either, and who else was there to play 4c? Ruzicka was shoehorned into a role he's not suited for.

I am not disputing that he was useless on the 4th line by the way.

I have a 'look at the bright side' proposition for people angry about these two:

Just think how bad the farms are at NJ and Arizona that picking up Ruzicka and DeSimone is a better option than calling up one of their youngsters.

^How's Boston in asset management? They signed Lucic, just to place Greer on waivers.

I don’t really think so. Yegor had 100ish points in 200ish games before we picked him up and was really good defensively. Ruzicka has 40 in 115 and does nothing away from the puck.

He scores more when he plays more because he earns more time when he plays well. He plays less now and has played less over that span because he was doing very little with whatever time he was given, both offensively and defensively.

Your numbers are also off. I tried looking at two years prior in the literal sense (Jan 25 2022 to now) and two years as in this season and last and neither match.

He’s a replacement level player that benefited from playing with two much, much better players (and made that line worse) last year. He’s not unique in that regard.

Mark February 8th on your calendar: Flames at Devils. DeSimone's revenge.

And April 14th at home vs Arizona. I hope Ruzicka gets booed!!!!

Not really valid for NJ. They have 3 D on injured reserve or LTIR in Hamilton, Smith, and Siegenthaler. Depth is a little tested here.

His icetime and production are a direct result of the role he's given.

He was scratched for an entire month to begin last season before he scored 17 points in 19 games in the top six. He didn't "earn" that opportunity. He was given it due to an injury and ran with it. Milan Lucic then took his spot for some ridiculous reason.

Additionally this year he had a short stint in the top six to begin the year and then got hurt. He didn't get an opportunity after that.

Outside of those two stints he has been stuck on the 4th line, where again, he is simply just not an effective hockey player.

As for the numbers, they have to be close. I went through his game logs a few times.
