Wonder if it means there was no trade to be had. For free, someone was willing to take a flyer.

As usual the Flames have no idea what asset management is. Or how to assess talent for that matter.

lol just like Phillips and Zadorov being a #3 dman. Valimaki aslo isn't looking like much of a miss now.

I imagine there will be warm bodies coming back. I agree the Flames developing D is sparse - hopefully Kuznetsov, Solovyev and Poirier turn into something that can complement Weegar and Andersson. And hopefully Kylington gets into form.
I haven't heard any reports on Lyle or Aspirot but their numbers are OK.

Very surprised that DeSimone was claimed. The Devils must be desperate

Gold...he has played 32 games and has one goal this season. Healthy scratch gold

How much cap space did we gain from these claims?

They weren't Flyers, they were Flames.

Speaking of Zadorov benched after a big giveaway last night. 6th in ice time for D since they got their guys back. Hope his agent is happy.
I wish these players well but they were a dime a dozen

They’re worth nothing. You couldn’t get a used bag of pucks for them.

Ruzicka is an RFA with arb rights. So is Valimaki. Chances are decent they are not Coyotes next year.

That is false. Valimaki is their 4/5 defenseman and has been solid defensively for them. He has a regular spot on their second pairing (ES) with Dumba or Stecher when he's not injured (such as the last two months)

I approve of Conroy's roster shuffling, there's no reason for a mid team to just stick to the same 13/7 players. They've revamped the 4th line because they didn't like its contributions lately which is what a proactive manager should do.
What's always frustrated me as a fan of the Flames is they usually have a conservative and static mindset about making these kinds of changes. The team out of training camp was probably going to be pretty close to the roster that ended the season. Maybe 1-2 callups all year. Conroy has given more Wranglers a shot in half a season than Treliving did in his entire tenure as GM

The Flames only at 43 contracts. Been a while since I've seen it that low, this late into the season.

Healthy teams cycle these types of players out of the system when their time is up. They have no trade value. Opens spots for the young guys. Opens 1.5 million in cap space. Next.

Not false. He's been a healthy scratch, including the last time the Flames played the Coyotes. He just got back in the lineup after being healthy scratched for 6 games. And he only got back because Stecher got hurt. He did manage his first point since Dec. 12 though.

sure, especially with only sitting at 43 contracts (might also allow them to try and sign a college UFA or two), I'm sure there'd be players coming back. In the end, I think you're right that the question of having either DeSimone or Oesterle will matter very little, but in isolation, I think DeSimone is easily the better defenseman, plus a righty to boot. That's why it's still a bit disappointing to see him get waived and claimed while Oesterle stays, but it is what it is.

I'm with the consensus that DeSimone was more useful than Oesterle but in the big picture it's nothing to fuss over. I wouldn't be surprised if Ruzicka briefly pops for Arizona but it will be short lived because he's a guy that simply doesn't bring a high effort on a consistent basis which is a shame because he does have some talent but teams can't wait forever and it was time to cut bait.

This is what a watered down league looks like. Players like this will come and go like a fart in the wind.

I'm completely shocked at both players being claimed. Though I suppose with NJ losing 2 dmen yesterday I should have seen it coming with DeSimone
Losing these guys is no loss.

He was scratched for six games after getting rocked in the head by Nick Cousins, which was his third game back after missing time from his facial injury. That's why he hasn't played much. It's not because he's an actual healthy scratch.
When he's in the lineup, he's regularly playing second pairing ES minutes with Dumba or Stecher as his partner.
It's weird how some of y'all are still butthurt about Valimaki doing pretty good on another team.
