I’m bumping this as there is a lot of speculating happening, and rightfully so. But… respectfully… maybe this is a better thread than the Carter Hart one.
In the end, whatever, #### these guys and get them out of the league.

What. In the Ever-Loving FATA....what are they WAITING FOR? Its been 6 YEARS!
We've sent William Shatner into Space in this time. Survived a Pandemic...mostly.
Come on guys! I know that lawyers aren't notorious for their punctuality but this is getting a little ridiculous.
This is pushin' it. More than a little.

So is there a date set for when this update to this case will come out?
Last I remember was in the summer they said it would be "pretty soon" to when it's released to the public.

Would the settlement mean the accused players can still be in the spotlight? We'd want people to know if someone's involved in something serious like this. Can they use the NHL shield to hide from the consequences? Just curious.

Hockey Canada hired Toronto law firm Henein Hutchinson LLP to conduct an independent investigation after they were forced to do so by Parliament. The law firm completed their investigation, but their findings and recommendations are being "appealed" before being released publicly. Hockey Canada won't say who filed the appeal, but I doubt it is the alleged victim. All these players taking time off to deal with "personal issues" tells you that we're not far off from the report being released.
These are some serious, serious, serious allegations. Obviously none of know the details, but there is enough reporting that we know the victim alleges that she was gang raped by eight men, three of whom held her captive with golf clubs as weapons. The text messages in their WhatsApp group have been handed over to the law firm, and that's likely how this whole coverup is going to unravel.
I don't even feel comfortable typing the details, but this article is worth reading if you want to know more.
The NHL wants nothing to do with this, or any of the players involved. There's not a sponsor in the world that is going to want their product or service associated with a group of gang rapists, should that turn out to be the case.
I'd forget about Dillon Dube playing in the NHL again. The bigger question is if the London Police Service will exist a year from now. Their bungling of this investigation will be very hard to come back from.

I understand the link you may be making, but if we don't know details, why should we assume Dube will never play again? And yes, I'm cognisant he was the captain but that doesn't put him in the room automatically.

You're right, and I want to be clear that I'm not accusing anyone of anything. We should wait for the facts. At the same time, we can't be naive. Nobody wants a player on their favourite hockey team to be accused of some of the most serious crimes there are.
Tellingly, there is nothing in the Flames' statement about wishing Dube well during his time off to deal with mental health issues. Just a simple "we will have no further comment at this time."

Hmmm, you may be onto something here. Let's compare this 'telling' statement with the Flames' press release re: Kylington in Sept:
Quote:
Following yesterday’s medical and fitness testing, it was determined that Oliver is unable to participate in the opening of training camp today. As this is a private personal matter, no further information will be provided.
|
Clearly, by not providing further information, the Flames must be implying that Kylington must have also been involved in the WJ Hockey incident as well!
Or potentially, you should stop speculating anything until more information is provided. You are making yourself look like an ass.

Geez, that's a nasty article. Who the F shows up with golf clubs to gangrape a drunk woman. F'ing a-holes.
Not looking good with all these random time-off requests from various players on that team the past few days. I have a bad feeling about Dube, given he was the captain and his recent leave and performance this season. IMO no way in hell he didn't at least know what was going on.
Hoping the names get released soon.

Can teams cancel contracts over something like this? I’d imagine not as it happened prior to NHL contracts. Any CP lawyers want to chime in?

Safe to say Ken Holland has booked a flight to London Ontario this morning.

Safe to say that this is likely not a matter that should be joked about (even at the Oiler's expense).
