Being proud of the Oilers signing this POS is some impressive mental gymnastics.

And let's be honest, the Oiler's aren't doing this to give Perry a second chance, they are doing it to try and win a cup. And they are willing to compromise on core values to do so.
You should be embarrassed, not proud.

lol at the thought of attempting to redeem a 38 year old - This is who he is. Why didn't the Oilers sign Phil Kessel instead of Corey Perry? Likely because the Oilers didn't have the cap space to sign Kessel. Perry knows this is his last shot to play in the league, that's all there is to it and the Oilers obliged him.

I don’t know if it’s been brought up here yet, but some have posted that he was in a relationship with a trainer and when she tried ending it he tried to push his authority. Assuming that’s right, and he went for rehab, where does the above scenario factor any type of substance abuse? If he had authority over the person and was in a position of power it is what it is and he should’ve been let go as it is a workplace matter where most are held to the same standard in their workplaces. But where does the substance abuse come in here? I’m so lost.
As for debates about him being a factor in Edmonton, he’s about the most ideal fourth liner you could have for the playoffs. He’ll be really good.

I skimmed the press conference- one reporter asked Holland if he knew everything about Perry’s termination and he didn’t. That reporter must not have been one of the oilers propaganda crew.
Other than that pretty softball questions. ‘Corey, what would you say to other people in your position to inspire them’. Now he is a hero. Good on him for agreeing to seek help (go or his life is ruined) , but he is far from a hero. Heard from folks who met him is a real life jerk as well. Let’s just hope he is irrelevant and, even better, poisons the room.

What rehabbing opportunities are the Oilers offering him? By offering him a contract so quickly after the incident, they are probably enabling him more than anything.

maybe I'm missing your question. There was an incident (various rumors abound) but the part he did cop to was 'alcohol abuse' for which he was seeking help

Really rolling the dice on a 38 year-old Corey Perry on a League Minimum, which, while not a 'big' risk does kind of show you how desperate he is.
Hopefully nobody gets hurt. Except Corey Perry...thats fine.

At the very least every GM in the league deserves to know what went on. Without that knowledge, how can they know that this wasn't just the league helping Chicago with cap circumvention or a playoff bump for the Greasers.
Seems like teams with the best Connors on them get a little extra leeway.

yep, pretty hard to argue the virtues of rehabilitation when the organization doesn't have a ####ing clue what happened

I have my doubts that we'll ever get full disclosure on what happened. I suspect the Hawks will sweep it under the rug and the NHL saying there is no more to be said about the incident.

If Stang was honest with himself he would ask himself if the Oilers really wanted to help rehab Perry, wouldn't they have at least done a full investigation other than Holland calling up Davidson and getting general answers like; " Well he did something bad enough that we had to terminate his contract but there were no rape or physical abuse allegations." which seems to be good enough for Holland and the Oilers organization. Hopefully now he's an Oiler Holland can get to the bottom of what really happened to ensure the Oilers provide Perry with the support and rehab he requires.

Especially a GM signing him should at least ask the league what was discussed even if the Blackhawks don't want to disclose.
Holland probably doesn't want to know.

Not finding out what the player just had his contract terminated over, before signing him to a new contract, is total incompetency - immediate, fire-able offense for any senior executive.

I'm tempted to agree.
If you can, without consequence, terminate a contract 'with cause' and neither the Team, Player, Union or League issue some concern?
Then he clearly deserved it.
What did he do? Murder an Intern?
I would not hire that person without knowing exactly what happened.

And then if you're Holland, you probably still hire him anyway.
I think the choice in his eyes was, do I sign him knowing what despicable thing he did, or do I sign him and claim plausible deniability later if it ends up coming out. I am sure he literally doesn't care what he did, he just wanted to add the player.

Well I think this is Holland's last kick at the can and he'll roll any dice he can get his hands on.
Any despicable player? No problem. Because Kenny's the Gambler and he's probably gone after this season.
If they can pry themselves into the playoffs this season it'll be a miracle. What do you think is going to happen next year? I dont think he wants to be around for that because the fans will burn his house down.
