Why would you pay a premium for ‘meh’ food? If I were starving, I would be grateful for anything and not he picky about it, but normal day, I think I would definitively opt for good food and not something mediocre, and be a little selective.

I think worse than picky eaters are the ones that are completely non-discerning. Have you ever been out with someone who is like, “it’s noon, we must eat NOW! There’s Humpty’s, let’s go!”

The greater the hunger and urgency, the better badder food tastes.
To point, you're ravenous and about halfway through a Subway (or some other mediocre fast food) and 0% tepid "beer" when suddenly your gut, brain, and taste buds all simultaneously say Meh.

Humptys. There’s a restaurant we can all agree has no redeeming qualities right?

They serve drunken morons after the bars close, so they have that going for them.

Apparently, not anymore. I got curious about how many still exist and there's only 3 left in Calgary and they all close at 8pm every day.

Their Monte Crisco sandwiches is excellent. Actually I always enjoyed their food overall.

I never understood why for a causal perspective, more people would not go there for lower priced lunch items more often.

Plenty of items under $18 with hearty portions for lunch.

A LOT of pubs get away with complete garbage basic food like a crispy chicken sandwich or some burger for $23 with substantially less food.

Atmosphere and the good looking girls matter to a point, but it's not everything

You don’t understand why a sandwich made from cheap luncheon meat and costs $18 isn’t a huge draw?

Schanks has really good food and I like the atmosphere a lot. And I say that as a guy who watches zero minutes of sports per year. If you like sports that place must be top notch.

White out I hope you realize that if you keep using the word slaps in that sort of context we’re eventually gonna have to hold an intervention

Has it changed?

I haven't been there in years, except for an office party in I think 2022 or maybe before the pandemic, it all rolls together.

It sucked.

Big

Empty

Cold

Food at the time was meh.

Place felt totally sterile and boring.

It's far from sterile. Earl's is sterile. Schanks is not.

Don't find it cold. Love the big open size. The food is quite good pub grub and I'm picky AF.

It can be empty, but I kind of like that as a non-sports guy. I had lunch there on Saturday or Sunday and there was a football game that seemed to be important? Not sure what that was about, but it was quite busy. When busy, though, you still have elbow room and can relax. The acoustics are great, too, probably owing to its size or something, but there isn't a loud din like in the places I consider to be sterile (like Earl's).

And boring? Dude, it has an arcade, pool tables and golf simulators. It's the least boring place of anywhere in Calgary if you want to move around and do stuff versus hanging out with your friends at a table.

But I'm not a shill for it or anything. I've just been a few times and really liked it. My turkey club on sour dough was awesome. The beef dip is really good. Things aren't greasy and nasty. It's good stuff, dude.

Minor thing, but why do people call it BPs? The name has no S.

All of your rebuttals are objectively false.

Shanks is weird for me.

On the one hand, Sliver is right. They have mini-golf, a simulator, Pool and the last time I was there a full-on Arcade!

Then theres off-track betting, etc.

But generally I go to pubs to sit with my friends, watch a game, maybe shoot some pool? But thats about it.

So for some people theres tons to do! But for others its too much?

By full arcade, you mean 4 Sega Rally cars with only one that works?
