Well it doesnt surprise me.
I mean, put all of the other BS aside, they got him for a pro-rated League Minimum contract. Thats hard to beat.
Its literally pennies on the dollar.

I think some of you are remembering the Corey Perry of yesteryear
there will be at least 10 players far superior going to actual contending teams in the next few weeks. Not to mention guys back for the playoffs on LTIR scams.
Chicago was absolutely insane to give him that deal in the first place, guy had league min written all over him

They had cap space to use, and they needed a mentor for the young players.
How does the face of the league and best player allow his team to keep bringing in scum.

We can either be upset they got a good deal on an above average playoff run performer or this is moot because Perry sucks now anyway.
Which is it?

If you're talking about McDivey, he's got a huge hand in bringing Perry in. Look at the way he plays the game. Sure, he scores a lot of points, but he doesn't play the game with a great deal of integrity, thus the diving.

We can be upset that the league is ####ed and something that is bad enough to get a team out of a 4M contract doesn't even deserve a one game suspension. while SN pretends nothing happened.
and at the same time think the player isn't very good anymore
both things can be true you know

Yeah, he got the contract because Chicago had cap to burn. Not saying it was a good deal.
He is untradeable at the deadline as well, they got lucky I guess.

Not just the diving, but his stick work, and just being an overall loser on the ice.
If you want to play like that you need back it up.

I mean when the Oilers don't win the cup it won't matter anymore, in fact it will hurt their cap next season but still there is something up with the league here. I am more worried about what might come next.
Terminate a multi million dollar contract for an incident, not a single game suspension or even a fine.
If you don't find that at least odd IDK
Should someone with the Flames get Huberdeau to sock them one?
Nearly identical to the Kane situation too just less money and worse player

It is odd, maybe it's just the nature of the incident. If it is the incident that people are suggesting then Chicago had to act on it in the best interest of their organization. I think if the player had done something a little different wiy more of a criminal element then it might have been a different situation. It's still odd and surprising considering the punishment handed out to Peters and Coach Q and then Perry still gets to play. I would imagine that Edmonton approached the league, with the idea that they were successful with Kane. They've got a one year deal with incentives and I bet you if that goes well thy will resign them again next year.
Edmonton was probably the only team in the league willing to take him. He has experience that would probably be very helpful even if he doesn't contribute a whole lot.
Still, NHL was pretty strictt with Peters and coach Q yet they a're quickly giving this player another opportunity.

No one is concerned about what a 40 year old Perry is on this ice, it's just a garbage move that probably wasn't worth the downsides that can come out of it between PR, owing bonuses while cap strapped, and what this guy potentially drags into your organization (not that I'd be the least bit sad over any fallout - shocked Kane hasn't destabilized things but maybe the whole culture is trash already).
I think the worst part of it is just rewarding/giving an out to guys who violated the agreements with their former teams and don't deserve another landing spot and NHL paycheck.

Exactly, if it was this easy to get out of a contract it would happen more often
Flames pay a first to move Monahan and 6M
Perry does something they don't like, not criminal, not even worth a league fine, media not digging very deep at all...contract done
Peters was front page news
It's certainly odd but it's the Oilers, there won't be anything negative from SN
Flames signed Bertuzzi and it was the end of the world in the Canadian media (even though he had already played signed in Detroit previously) I remember Sutter had to go out and confront reporters on it.

I hope they dig to the bottom of what Perry did and it flies in the face of the ho hum narrative they're trying to spin.
Holland doesn't even do his due diligence by getting details on the incident. What an irresponsible buffoon.
