Yup, Foster is a major draw for this season of True Detective. She picks her roles well. Maybe the worst I've seen her in was that Matt Damon flick in space but it was like....South Africa in space?? Whatever, Jodie Foster is legit. Can't wait to see where this goes.

She is also doing a fantastic job at carrying the other actors around her.

I agree Elysium was bad. It borrowed so much from District 9, but in a tired way.

Serious call backs to s01 in this season. Almost to a point of continuation.

After ep.2 I am convinced this is going to be as good as season 1. I'm hooked.

The only drawback is that I'm likely going to have to rewatch season 1 for any of this to make sense. I also had a tough time following the relationships between the characters, which is crucial to the plot. I had a tough time following who was related to/sleeping with who.

Great show. But definitely not something you can casually step into.

My prediction is this will be Rust’s vengeance against the Tuttles. Kind of a “time’s up” thing. Those lab guys have been at this for a long time, so maybe they weren’t really academics but a warehouse for Tuttle’s gang of pedophiles? No idea if Rust is still alive now. Also, what did Navarro run over? I went back and didn’t see anything except maybe it was a means for her to get shaken up a bit and find the necklace.

Lund survived? WTH?

Still not like the supernatural bend. A little too X-File-ish.

Season 1 did the same thing, but then had a pretty rational explanation for everything. I think we're getting a lot of point of view accounts from people with mental health issues who are in a pretty paranoia inducing atmosphere. I wouldn't conclude there's anything that can't be explained away going on.

The whole 24 hour darkness thing is really disorienting as well (which is obviously the point). When the trooper walked into the bar and the server asked if she wanted some lunch, it hurt my head.

I had the same experience in Iceland with the near 24 hour daylight. I was sort of like, we could avoid a bunch of the tourist crowds if we did our sightseeing at 3AM.

The rational explanation of the ghost of Travis is probably that she actually saw Rust, and he was responsible for everything. They kind of looked similar.

She looks a lot like Rust too (The 2012 Lonestar Rust anyway). But again, another unclear relationship status. Only the Travis/Rust relationship is established- is Rose actually Rust's mother?

Could the production have hidden a McConaughey cameo and/or role in this? Seems like movies and shows are generally pretty good at keeping these surprise appearances hidden, so I wouldn't be surprised.

What's the timeline on this season compared to s01 timeline? Maybe this is a prequel and Rust has been following the spiral and the Tuttles TO New Orleans?
Either way, the S01 ties are awesome. A continuance of the Carcosa ideology and how far it spreads is fascinating.

Either way, I'm hooked and can't wait to see how this all unravels.

As in the ex-wife that he lost a daughter with in car/tricycle accident? Only problem is that occurred in mid to late 80s. Seems like Foster’s grief is much more current and I think she lost a son. Otherwise it would have to be post-2012 following S1, but seems like Foster’s character was busy with her step-daughter’s dad during that time.

And who do we guess Hank is being played by with the Russian bride? Danvers or the killer maybe?? True Detective too clever for the latter. Danvers would be hilarious and fitting for how big of a big bully she is seeming to be. Remember the fantasy football on her cell reference…
