That he was usually right when it came to his Twitter pissing matches made it entertaining. But it’s not a good use of time.

Alas, the NDP doesn't actually want to win. It's the same tired story with that progressives/centrists/latte liberals today as it has been for decades. They care less about winning and more about "being right" and telling everyone that.
|
Exactly. You don't need or want the hard-right rural types in the tent anyway. But you do need apathetic suburban Calgarians who vote conservative because that's what their parents did to listen to you, and not being the NDP will help with that.

The Breakdown
“David Parker is refusing to cooperate with an Elections Alberta into his organization’s activities until it’s purged of all its employees, who cannot be trusted to conduct a fair investigation”
This is a WILD read…

David Parker
To be clear, I am calling Elections Alberta a totally corrupt organization:
1) EA is in the back pocket of the unions.;
2) EA attempted to defraud the Albertan voting public out of fair elections;
3) That they have used their position to further their partisan ideological agenda;
4) EA is actively working against its mandate of promoting democratic involvement and is in fact discouraging democratic engagement;
5) That EA is actively encouraging non-citizens to vote. Which is another form of voter fraud;
6) EA has decreased general trust in the transparency and integrity of our institutions by refusing to address real citizen corners about election integrity.

It really is impressive that conservatives in this province have overcome these malevolent actors' evil deeds to win 14 of the last 15 elections.

He seems happy being retired, but Nenshi leading that party would be interesting. He’d run rings around Smith, but likely piss off too many.

Late to responding to this, but I don't think they have a choice but to change the name if they want to give themselves a chance at winning next election. A big reason why they aren't the government right now is simply because NDP = anti Alberta and Oil & Gas due to affiliation with the federal party.
As much as they may keep saying that they aren't associated with them, and the provincial party is its own entity, branding matters (a lot), and that's a brand that gives them an unnecessary uphill battle. They made it easy for the UCP to attack them on that, and enough voters resonated with it that it cost them ridings they should've won in the Calgarian region. For many voters, it genuinely may have come down to "as much as I don't like the UCP right now, I can't trust NDP". I don't know how they could trust Smith, but it's likely a legitimate thought a lot of these voters had. It's great that they got the most votes in party history this election, but even still that wasn't enough to get a majority of seats in what should've been a comfortable victory in their favour.
So how are they gonna do things different for the next election, so they can get more UCP voters to swing their way this time? They need to shed off the Jagmeet Singh/Federal NDP/Anti O&G narrative completely, and be portrayed as a party for Albertans, by Albertans. Take away the UCP's biggest weapon against them. Changing their party name is a no brainer since they have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.
It seems there are some within the party who think the same, and explored the polling on this subject:
Alberta's Progressive Future
They got polling done with Janet Brown Research ( The kingmaker) between September 13 - 26, 2023. There's no link to the poll study I could find, but they acknowledged that the results indicate that a sizable number of respondents believe that the Alberta NDP is influenced by the federal party.
The provincial party says that the federal doesn't have influence on them, so if a lot of voters think otherwise, and it's holding the party back, doesn't it make sense to cut ties with the NDP brand if the only thing they have in relation to one another is the name?

I'm not saying that I wish ill-will upon Smith...but if she went out one snowy day to shovel her driveway and just never came back...I wouldnt shed any tears.

If Will Smith 'Oscar-slapped' her across the face would it be like dividing by Zero? Would Time itself have to grind to an abrupt halt?
Whats that service where Celebrities do personalized things for money. Do think Will Smith is on that? Maybe he might be available?

I work I'm a pretty rural place a couple of nights a week, and the number of people who will end a conversation with "the Notley-Singh alliance" is higher than you think. (I've never written that out, but my phone had a spell correct for it!)
With notley gone, it would absolutely make a difference to the Twitter crowd, in particular.
