I don’t like these takes. The fan base gets upset when players express they don’t want to be here, then questions ambition when players express they are happy here (Markstrom, Coleman, Kadri)?

Yeah, and it really depends on what teams are even inquiring. Picking a winning team is very hard and maybe the most serious teams are the ones sitting outside of contender status

Given Markstrom’s resume and the fact he is clearly happy here in this organization, there’s realistically not a better goaltender for the Flames to have on the roster teaching Wolf how to be a NHL goalie over these next few years.

In that sense, Markstrom has more value to this organization thru this re-tool than the 2nd round pick + B level prospect that he’d return in a trade.

With all ufas gone:

Top 6 forwards: Kadri, Zary, Sharangovich, Huberdeau, Mangiapane, Backlund*, Coleman*, Coronato*, Pelletier*.
*= player who may or may not be top 6 next season. That's 5 of 6 spots filled with at least 4 candidates for the last spot.

Defense top 4: Anderson, Weegar, Kyllington***

2/4 spots filled with Kyllington being a huge question mark. Only high end prospect that may have been close has been injured all season (Poirier).

While the team is low on scoring, it's not low on top 6 Forwards, we need 1 star forward and 2 top 4 defence to move the needle towards winning.

Honestly this team just needs to start selling high at the deadline and buying low during the summer. It seams so obvious and the market is incredibly predictable.

Can we just take a quick sec to acknowledge how stupid the eyeball thing is on a tweet? It is obnoxious / annoying. It’s also overused and sort of wrecks the message a little bit- or- the message could be better delivered on sharing info without it. I have a really irrational dislike of the eye thing.

Could it be that the two groups are made up of different fans?

Unless he is not ready to give up the starting role which I think he plans on keeping for a few years yet. Trade him if you can improve the team for the future. This team isn't winning anything even if they make the playoffs this year or next. I am sick of this middle of the league results or worse and it sounds like Conroy is too. Wolf looks like he has icewater running thru his veins I think he could be a starter in the NHL now.

The Flames have 45 players under contract, and they all have unique hopes, dreams and desires.

I would say two star forwards. Huberdeau SHOULD be one... but isn't.. so we need two.

I don’t think it’s irrational.

Flames and Devils have similar records, it's not like Markstom would be turning down a sure cup if he didn't want to go there.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but Markstrom is under contract for two more seasons after this one. He'll be 36 when his deal expires. Even the most optimistic Flames fan knows that we're in for a long rebuild with little chance of success over the next few seasons.

I'd much rather a guy who is hungry for success, not happy to collect a fat paycheck and cruise to retirement.

I do believe the OG and the man to thank for it, his name is Ryan Leslie.

I'm gonna guess that the Weekes things was a nod to maybe Markstrom making the ASG.

That's a fan vote, and they just announced the first batch - and he wasn't in it, but three other goalies were.

Well, if that's not it, there rando twitters out there saying there's some Marky news coming . So perhaps it's a Sunday Sunday thing. I wouldn't call those tweets reliable. But there's stuff out there implying "inside knowledge"

lol. You are assuming he can be traded to an actual contender though and if he doesn't think the teams that want to trade for him are cotenders then it makes just as much sense to stay in a city he likes

I doubt Markstrom is going anywhere

With both Merzlikins and Vezmelka available, teams probably want to go with the cheaper option
