Beat the Wild, Blues, Stars with stellar performances though
what goalie doesn't have one bad series?

He’s seemed as happy as I’ve ever seen him this year and definitely seems to have found his grove again, the teams vibe during the mentor trip has been pretty incredible too and you could tell Marky was especially enjoying it with his bro.
I’m very much in the I’ll believe it if/when I see it camp but I do welcome the thought of this franchise selling high on a contract that largely will likely go to waste during its duration here. Marky on a contender makes a ton of sense to me and if the offer is rich enough I could see the Flames asking Markstrom if he’d consider.
Ultimately it’s Markstroms decision and this is all just minor smoke but we shall see if it turns into an ember here sometime next week. I do think Conroy wants to make a move here in January to get a bit of a jump on the market and because he has a lot to do and consider with only 7 or so weeks to do it.

Leafs don't really make much sense. Don't have any high-end prospects of interest, couple that with having to retain and take Samsonov back there isn't much there. Even Knies isn't a blue chip in my opinion, plays with some pretty high-end talent for his output.
Craig, throw them this.
TOR
Markstrom (50% retained)
CGY
Samsonov
Cowan
Liljegren
2024 1st
This year is the Leafs window, literally this year. If Tre hangs up fine good riddance.

Why focus on just that series instead of the body of work?
Perhaps because it's reinforces the opinion you had of Markstrom since the day he was acquired?

Any and all conversations with TOR should start with Knies and end with Knies + 2024 1st.
This is the Brett Hull for the (shot at the ) Stanley Cup trade.

It’s a valid point he made though. Not everyone has to have nefarious reason for pointing something out. If every game had the same weight then it’s fair to point to the entire body. But the playoffs is what matters most and more recently is faltered badly. It’s a valid point to question if he can handle the pressure of the playoffs as it was among the worst goaltending performances with the goals he let in. Is it behind him? Who knows.

Agreed. Knies is controllable and their next generation potential star. Almost no chance they’re dealing him.

I have watched Knies quite a bit, think he is a bit overrated but probably a solid second line player. Swap out Liljegren for Knies then,
TOR
Markstrom (50%)
CAL
Samsonov
Knies
Cowan
2024 1st
Suck it Wizard......start off only retaining 40% and then do 50%. Toronto is screwed.

This whole “the pressure got to him” angle is completely made up. If it did, none of us know that. Maybe only his wife knows that. It’s continuously stupid to say that’s what happened, as if it’s a fact. Or that where the opponent was from mattered at all. He got beat when he got beat, and we lost. For a lot of on ice reasons. But you don’t know Jack #### about how he felt about it because you watched play some games on TV. So no, it isn’t valid.

A couple of things that make moving Markstrom palpable for the Flames.
1. They're getting serious offers for him from teams desperate for goalies.
2. They don't consider point #1 without the firm belief that Wolf is the real deal and ready. (And why shouldn't they be convinced?)

Nobody knows 100% the reason you’re right there but he did let in a lot of really bad goals. How can you say with certainty it was on ice reasons? As an athlete pressure can get to you on ice, it doesn’t have to be mental issues or anything so I don’t see the problem with asserting that based on what we seen. It’s part of sports which is why some athletes do well in big games and some don’t. It’s a board and we speculate on a lot. Relax.

In that same playoff against Dallas he was fantastic.
It's confirmation bias. Putting more weight to things that support an already held view.

I'll say it again. I don't see any teams giving up their top prospects for UFAs. I think the expectations should be reigned in and look at some lesser prospects, but decent ones all the same. We're not getting anyone's top prospect as top prospects are rarely traded, especially those already on rosters. I think there are still some interesting players out there the Flames could shake loose, but a top prospect is a stretch. They rarely get moved at the deadline. I would expect players like Olausson (COL), Hameenaho (NJ), Sykora (NYR), and Minten (TOR) to be made available (all very solid prospects), but some of the names being tossed around seem extremely unlikely.

Game 7 against Dallas was a big game. Did he do well in that?

Agreed. Teams rarely trade those guys including because it is important to have cheap roster players on entry level deals. A top heavy team like the Leafs benefit from a guy like Knies that could contribute, but cheaply (for now).
MAYBE you can get a guy like Holtz out of NJ, but that's the tippy top. And that may not even be doable. They didn't give him up to get Meier which is telling.
