He also has a NMC, so it would need his approval. I would assume that the team approached him weeks ago if this was in the works.

Weekes totally said Tkachuk for Eichel, and then boom...like 2 years later, Tkachuk was gone.
...and Eichel was in Vegas.
Jokes aside, Weekes definitely has his sources. He may have been used in that Eichel trade talk - but we also do now know that Calgary and Vegas were the last two teams in on Eichel, so...yeah, Weekes is legit.

and Sec posted just a few days ago that the team has approached Markstrom regarding his NMC:
Quote:
He is willing to waive for the right situation and they must have a perceived contention window for the term of his contract or he wants to stay in Calgary.

Until Leslie posts the eyes I'm not convinced. It would be strange to trade Markstrom in the middle of the dads trip.

It would be way weirder if that had any impact on day to day operations…

Didn't Weekes say we were using Tkachuk for Eichel?
This would definitely be a sign of intent.

It means Markstrom is having a breakout season.

Weekes also was the Zadorov team's mouthpiece leaking the Trade request.

Moving Markstrom and getting value for him would be great obviously.
Flames need to give the net to the younger goalies more often, especially Wolf because he will hopefully be the goalie of the future, but I also think Vladar would benefit from more time in goal.
Clear cap space, get younger in net, remove a NMC from the equation, plus I like Markstrom but I'm still bitter about him turning into swiss cheese against the oilers in the first playoff BoA in 30 years. Embarrassing
And then he sewered the whole last season.

I'm not opposed to trading him, given his value should be relatively high right now and I'm firmly on team rebuild. But I just don't see it, especially right now ... I'd imagine moving him in the offseason would make more sense. Trading him before moving any of the pending UFAs would be a curveball for sure.

Marky going also means Lindholm definitely going (which was expected anyway) as they are best buddies and one of the main reasons Marky signed here originally.

Weekes is awful to listen to. His ego being on American TV has caused him to do stupid crap like this all the time. I am not a fan.
If Markstrom is traded, great, but we better be getting some good pieces in return.

If the Flames are fairly confident that the math doesn't add up to make the playoffs, moving Markstrom is sort of a genius move as it will likely ensure they don't get all that close and face those ugly keep or trade our UFA decisions.

Perhaps it's Tim that's on the move. He is the better goalie and would garner a higher return.

I agree, he is trying to be cool like Adam Schefter and Andrew whatever his name is that covers the NBA. I don't doubt there is something there. He just annoys the crap out of me most times I have to listen to him speak and or read anything he produces.

Yeah, it rings true about that at least, but I thought he'd said we'd offered Tkachuk, which the team came out and denied.
Either way, seems like there's something in this.

which, of course they'd deny. They have to do that. They couldn't sit here and be like "oh yeah, we trade to trade Chucky...but we didn't close the deal, so yeah...Chucky is still here"
Weekes seems to go with more rumours than other insiders do (a lot of the time other insiders won't post anything until it's all but 100% confirmed), so yeah I'd think there's something to this but it doesn't guarantee something happens. Probably safe to think that there are in fact some talks happening (...which is what Sec had from his sources as well)

This is kind of exciting because if they are considering moving Markstrom with the way that he is playing, it would have to be a very substantial offer.

We'll certainly have some interesting discussion on here between the "Markstrom has negative value" and the "Markstrom will get you a king's ransom" camps.
