Senators enter matchup with the Flames on losing streak
BOTTOM LINE: The Ottawa Senators, on a three-game losing streak, play the Calgary Flames.
Calgary has gone 9-7-1 at home and 17-18-5 overall. The Flames have allowed 127 goals while scoring 121 for a -6 scoring differential.
Ottawa is 14-21 overall and 4-11-0 on the road. The Senators are 10th in the league with 164 total penalties (averaging 4.7 per game).
Calgary Flames players have shown management that they’re not good enough to win
His answer to Ryan Leslie’s question about the direction of the franchise set Flames Twitter ablaze.
“Well every day since the start of the season, Craig, Dave, Brad, myself have talked about how to improve the club every day, short-term or long-term. Flames fans know we have some contracts that are up. We’d like to keep all our players. The reality is in a cap world you probably can’t. It’s a real balancing act. Ultimately the players sort of dictate who stays and who goes, quite frankly… We’re continuing to look at our team. We thought, okay we’ll get through the All-Star break, see where we sit, see where we stand. Continue to talk to our own players and agents and yet, realistically be in the marketplace and try and figure out how we can better this club. And that’s a daily act on our part.”
His answer left a lot of Flames fans worried that there is not a definitive long term plan in place to get the Calgary Flames back to being a legitimate playoff team, and ultimately, a Stanley Cup contender.

I looked at recent history between these two teams and for the most part the games tend to be pretty one-sided favoring the winner. I would expect 4+ goals to be scored tonight by at least one team.

What is happening in Ottawa? This was supposed to be the year they turned the corner. It's been five years since Tkachuk has been drafted; they have made some very savvy roster decisions, drafted quite well and have collected a bunch of really talented players over that time, and they still languish at the bottom of the East.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Feels like the Flames don't miss many chances like this, to embarrass their fanbase.
6-1 loss.

Anther trap game.
Flames need to understand that they don't get trap games.
They are the team that other teams should get trapped by.
The Flames need to give 100% to win pretty much any game.

This is honestly a horrible scheduling spot for the Flames. they go Minnesota, Nashville, Philly, Chicago, and back to Calgary to play a team who's been waiting here since Sunday after last playing on Saturday. Than the Flames head out of town again. This is like a long travel road game in front of home fans.
NHL has had a really stupid schedule this year.

I don't know what will happen tonight. Absolutely brutal scheduling, but at least the effort has been there most of the time. Go Flams. You can do this.

Lindstrom is good, but he's not close to Celebrini. I still think Eiserman is way better too. If we're going to lose might as well hope for the best. Macklin or bust until that dream dies.

Here’s hoping the Flames defy the NHL and wear the pride Jerseys in Warmups, or even better, for the whole game.

I'm also confused by this team. Their goaltending isn't the best, but everything else on the roster should be good enough to at least by a wildcard team. Poor coaching and upper management seem to be the issue, but there's really no excuses with the changes being made in those areas.

I expect... a game to be played tonight.
Hopefully it is entertaining. I think losing to Chicago's AHL affiliate and being embarrassed, I think the Flames will really come out hard. However, I felt that they would do the same thing after losing to the Flyers.
From Ottawa's side, the pressure is really on them. They are rested, and they can't afford to lose yet another game. They have to show their fanbase that this team that they built - and declared ready to compete - can actually win games. They have been terrible, though their goal differential isn't so bad. 4 -11 on the road - that's terrible. Also they are the only team in the NHL without a loser point.
I have no idea what to expect. A bloodbath tonight considering where both teams are? Or will it be two toddlers pretending to fight until one of them falls down? I will be tuning-in to find out!
