lol Nurse
but cap hit is all that really matters per this conversation
hey I'm all for it, the Leafs paying more for their team that can't win in the playoffs sounds great.
I mean they have 12 regulation wins in 37 games, they aren't even very good now...they have skills for the extra points in the gimmicks that don't exist past 82

Yeah I just wanted to put Nurse's name out there. I still can't believe he will be taking home 20% more than McDavid next year.

I wonder if Treliving baked in some 7-8M per year bonuses as well to get it done. That is just the icing on the cake in his fantastic Huberdeau contract.

I get it you have to keep your stars but it will be interesting to try and see this team improve without many assets and an aging core.
No series wins with their ELC’s and so far 1 series win with the second contracts almost coming to a close so we will see if they can make noise this year considering 2 of the 3 enter their 3rd contracts next year.

That contract pushes the price Vancouver is going to have to pay Petterssen higher. Nylander and Petterssen have basically identical counting stats since 2018-19, Petterssen is 3 years younger and plays C as opposed to RW.
Those 3 years and the value of a centre over a winger has to be worth at least the 1.5 million per year that will make Petterssen's contract the highest cap-hit in the league.

Panarin: 3rd in points, 4th in goals

Karlsson only has 27 points.
Nylander is currently 6th in points...so, it fits in my eyes.

Well, if you look at the last three years combined you have:
1st - McDavid - 330 points (4nd in goals at 122), 196 GP
2nd - Draisaitl - 280 points (T-2nd in goals at 125), 196 GP
3rd - Mackinnon - 264 points (12th in goals at 96), 176 GP
4th Kucherov - 249 points (33nd in goals at 83), 169 GP
5th Tkachuk - 248 points (20th in goals at 90), 200 GP
9th Matthews - 236 points (1st in goals at 130), 183 GP
14th Nylander - 221 points (14th in goals at 95), 200 GP
I know Nylander is having a great season, but I would put him a step behind the big boys of the NHL.

Yeah, he’s not a night in night out super producer year after year, but he’s a guy who is skilled and works hard. Because the leafs have a lot of talent to cover off his production is up there. I understand the number is high because of the cap increase expectation. I don’t like it or dislike it for the leafs. Should be fine but I still question their back end over the long term aging of our former players back there. Tavares’ contract coming off its high will help though. But eventually they’ll have to pay Knies. I’m thinking Marner has to be considered bait next year.

I think teams get into trouble overpaying for older players on the decline. This contract should hold up well over the years, and certainly pushes the Leafs in the right direction.
It is his deals on the bottom-half of the roster that push the Leafs in the wrong direction. I am curious to see what he does as the deadline approaches. Treliving has always been a GM who likes to get deals done ahead of the deadline, so I expect some movement soon from that organization.

One of the few positives about the Flames not having any elite players for now and the foreseeable future is that we can now sit back and watch the rest of the league push the boundaries of maximum salaries.

Good for Nylander. He had his foot on Treliving's throat and he stomped.

It's funny that the title of this thread has been edited multiple times as new info comes out but the spelling of his name hasn't been fixed any of those times.

Matthew 13.5 and Nylander 11.5 the two contracts Treliving has signed in Toronto.
Also brought in Domi, Bertuzzi and Klingberg while leaving the goalie situation a mess.
I don't think Treliving lasts more than 3 years in Toronto.

Keeping Keefe buys him at least another coach hire but since he's absolutely abysmal at evaluating head coach candidates that will probably be his last.
