He. Did. Not! The CGI on that scene was brutal...all of it was bad. Its like Samuel L Jackson's rider had expired and that was it. No more access to him so they just wrote him out. It was so hammy it was ridiculous.

I would argue that the remarkable CGI is what makes that whole scene so incredible!

I'm not saying it wasnt batcrap nuts and frankly, objectively hilarious, I'm just saying that within the context of a big-budget blockbuster feature film...it wasn't good.

I remember laughing my head off when that happened.

It was like the Director's watch dinged and "Thats it. Thats our time with Sam, get him out!" I thought it was hysterical. I think my first thought was "They're not serious right. Right? Thats how Sam Jackson is going down??" I mean...not even to get into the physics of it since that just isnt how sharks move....I cant even go into more of it.

When I first saw it, I had to rewind and watch it. Love that movie almost entirely for that scene alone. Like killing off Seagal in Executive Decision, only better.


Plus it had the line "The sharks brains were too small for our purposes, so we made them bigger. As a side effect, they got smarter."

Look...ever since I first read Jaws I've loved Sharks. I think they are wonderful and fascinating creatures and if/when Hollywood decides to do something big, dumb and stupid with Sharks I'm here for it.

But that was...that was hard to get through. Just...sheerly logistically. How is a Shark the size of a school-bus supposed to swim through a standard sized office hallway in 2 feet of water?

It just dont make sense!

Anyways, that movie is on the spectrum of 'so bad its good.'

Society of the Snow on Netflix was excellent. Obviously everyone knows of the story but I didn’t know any of the details, or had I seen Alive. Highly recommend, harrowing survival story.

Well, it is a true story, so that would've been a bit tough.

This one did have a bit of an interesting twist if you're not familiar with exactly who does survive, however. Spoiler below:

Here's a nice little crossover between shark movies and disaster true-stories: Open Water. This is based on a true story and...

...I was watching it thinking wow those poor people went through a lot but at least they survived their ordeal and got to tell their story. Nope. Other than having them left behind by the scuba boat, it was all imagined. When it ended with the death of both characters, I was left thinking how the hell could they know what happened. The missing divers could have gotten the bends and died 5 minutes into being lost or died from exposure their first night. Like Locke I too am fascinated/terrified by sharks ever since I saw Jaws as a kid (thanks mom and dad). Open Water was probably the most scared I've been for a prolonged period in my life.
