Taking a while to get to 5000

Swiss came pretty close on a few occasions to ending that in OT. Would have been fun, but oh well.

It will be interesting to see how long our legacy will hold our hockey dominance.
The registration numbers between Canada and the USA are quite similar. With the growth of NCAA D1 hockey, the pool of high level players available to get into coaching their youth is quite large. That is a pretty big advantage.
The biggest issue in producing top end talent in both countries the required parental investment. I think it would take a Unicorn of the Unicorns for a kid make a National Team, or get drafted, without spending $20+K a year (conservative) from the time they turn 14. The US simply has way more people with that kind of scratch.
Impossible to know, but I’d love to figure out how much top end talent is lost due to cost.

US might already be ahead of Canada right now IMO.
If you do a best on best 7 game series I think US might take it.
Better goaltending, and might be more talented at forward and defense. Would really come down to if McDavid, Mackinnon, and Makar could carry them.

That is a real stretch.
Canada has dominated the last few best in bests, done much better at the recent WJHC despite often missing their top guys, have produced more top end and overall talent in the draft as well.
I would also say a 7 game best in best really Davies zcabada wiyh their depth, the US would likely prefer a one off game and hope they get luck or a great goaltending performance.

It was horrific, but they made their bed with the 3 missed high-sticking calls. You knew there was going to be a gift coming at some point.
Shame, because it was a good game.

You missed them being down 5-2 in the second. I thought they were done. That was one of the craziest WJC games I've watched

Swedes have 12 silver medals, 3rd one on home ice.
They have only ever won 2 gold medals, 1981 in Ausberg, Germany and 2012, that 1-0 OT slugfest at the Saddledome.
