Regardless, it's fun to see all these AHL callups this season! It's been a damn minute since we've been this active with farm team recalls - and I doubt that this is the last one either.

MOAR prospects!

I tell ya win or lose just being able to watch them in the NHL really makes the season interesting.

The only way to know if Yan can play is to put him in there.

Klyington is also a bonus that could factor. Nothing against Kuznetsov, but throwing him to the wolves won't help his development if this team suddenly has holes with a Tanev and Haniffin departure.
His status is still 'out indefinitely', last updated a week ago. It's not even week to week, so I don't expect he's close.

Aside from that, very little is known about the extent of the injury aside from seeing Poirier at the rink in a sling.

I like it. With the potential trades and pending UFA’s this summer, there’s going to be a lot of opportunity on defence. These guys will benefit from the experience and give management a better idea of what they have.

Great that they are giving everyone a look.

His progress has been slow at times, but he has all the tools to be an NHLer - you never know.

Nick Desimone has been fine, but Osterle has struggled. I doubt Kuznetsov would be any worse than Osterle.

It's looking like 4/5 of the 2020 picks will end up playing some NHL games.

Once Kylington is back, that should be a pretty big upgrade over Osterle/Gilbert/Desimone

Coincidentally, the Matthew Phillips thread has been bumped.

Remember when we had no one drafted in 2018 or later that had played a game in the NHL? Kuznetsov will be the 7th (and Poirier would be 8, if he weren't injured)

Maybe the Flames aren't the stupidest franchise to ever NHL

Who is Shilly pairing with on the Wranglers? That may have played a role in who is being called up as well. Have shilly partner with a specific pairing in order to work on something specific?

No, they aren't, but this is happening because Conroy has made it a priority. BT was too obtuse to even leave the door open for players to jump up and down between the NHL/AHL as a possibility.

Maybe Sutter would have blocked the door as well, but if you don't give him a choice by plugging in bums and PTOs in the first place, there's only so much he can do.

I don't think that's going to be a consideration. He's not going to be spending a lot of time there. His priority is getting his timing and legs geared up.

Gotta admit, pretty neat to see so many unproven players in the system getting the call up.

Both.
If you give Sutter Trevor Lewis (who by the way I thought was fine) he's going to play Trevor Lewis. And to some extent you should give your coach the roster he needs to excel.
But equally Sutter I don't think gave a lot of the kids a real chance. He never gave Pelletier a look after sitting him down.
So both.

I'm speculating, but it looks like the Flames might call up Wolf as well.

Scorp, do you have any insight?

No reason to call up wolf IMO unless there's something brewing on the trade front.
