Anytime someone tries to do the military callsign spelling thing (I'm sure that's not the right name for it, but you know, Oscar Sierra Romero Romeo Alpha) my brain just immediately shorts out. I start writing down the words.

Slooow down!

People still drinking and driving is crazy to me.

Quote:
Between Dec. 24, 2023 and Jan. 1, 2024, 189 impaired drivers were removed from the roads and a total of 2,459 traffic tickets were issued.

Sgt. Darrin Turnbull, of Alberta RCMP Traffic says a lot of motorists were behaving dangerously on Alberta roads this holiday season.

"The numbers are way too high," says Sgt. Turnbull. "There were way too many tickets we had to issue and way too many impaired drivers."

Overall, 1,050 individuals were ticketed for speeding, including one for a motorist who was caught travelling 204 km/h in a 110 km/h zone.
204 km/h! Someone must have tried to finish the ring road in 30 minutes.

The real gear-grinder is people not understanding you spelling out a word.

For example, I was on a work trip last month, and the hotel I stayed at never emailed me my receipt. I'm cleaning up expenses this week, and had to call them and ask for it to be re-sent. I'm almost 100% sure that the gal at the desk—who was Australian—did not write my email address down correctly even though I made sure to repeat it thrice, including once with the phonetic alphabet.

^^Yup! A month ago we attended a social event. I had one beer with dinner then stopped. My wife offered to drive but it’d been two hours so I knew I was fine. Was stopped at a check stop with mandatory blow. I blew 0.0.

You know what would be handy in this day and age? If they automatically emailed you a copy of the folio when you check-out.
We get emails for confirmations and survey requests for 3 weeks after, but we can't get that? Or even put it in my member history. If I book online, why can't I get a copy of my receipt online.

Driving home on New Year’s Eve and it was crystal clear there were at least 3 drunk drivers on the road. Such a stupid thing to do and a sign you’re a total loser.

Normally that's what they do, it's just in this case it was for a work trip and a colleague had booked the room for me. As such, my colleague's email address was the one on file, not mine, so I had to give them my email address at check-out.

Like I said, I spelled it out for the desk attendant twice, and then a third time with the phonetic alphabet, and still didn't get the email. I think she had no idea what I meant when I said "echo-mike-alpha-india-lima at whiskey-echo-bravo-sierra-india-tango-echo dot com"...

It's called the NATO Phonetic Alphabet.

I still remember when I first went to work at the airport and guys had to use phonetic when they never had before. ONe guy is out doing a parking lot patrol and he wants to call in a license plate number so I tell him go ahead.

I still have the phonetic alphabet burned into my brain from when I was arrested as a teenager.

You have to be fairly inebriated to blow over 0.05. One or two drinks won’t do it.

On New Year’s Eve I had three drinks between 7:30 and 10. At 11:30 I ran the numbers in a BAC, and I was 0.0. I drove home at 1:30.
