I'm not sure we'd get Kakko, Schneider, and a 2nd for Hanifin and Tanev, let alone just Tanev.

I don't even care about Kakko. Not really interested in reclamation projects. Give me Schneider and the 2nd.

Agreed on Kidd.
A buddy of mine played on the '91 Memorial Cup winning Chiefs team, and Kidd was legit.

Apparently Friedman mentioned Markstrom as one of the 5 goalies who could be on the Devils radar but mentioned he would have to waive so he is not sure of that is a legit option for the Devils.

So you would trade Hanifin and Tanev for Schneider and a 2nd? Good God I am glad some of you are not the GM.

LOL where did I say that? My post was in regards to the posted proposal of Tanev and Ruzicka as the Flames assets going the other way.

That would be a bad trade. A defensive dman with little offensive upside and a 2nd for those two? I would rather have K’Andre Miller than Schneider anyway if we are taking that little in the package.

But are we offering up much in that package to the Rangers? Does Ruzicka have any value at all?
Tanev for a defenseman that can play in your top 4 for the next 8-10 years is a pretty good return, sure Schneider is not sexy but he is very good at his role and doesn't hurt the team. Not sure we have any solid defensive defensemen on our team or in our system that can play that role either. Poirier and Morin both seem to be more offensive type guys than shutdown players.
The added 2nd gives us a chance to draft a young piece that can bring some more excitement as well.
Maybe if you think Ruzicka has potential is doesn't look great but to me he has spent his whole career and especially his time in the NHl showing he is a not nearly consistent enough to be a key player and a guy that offers very little most of the time he is out there.

This is a unique negotiation because of Michael Nylander. Honestly, I feel gross writing it because I hate bringing up family when it comes to this stuff. But it is a factor and why everyone is so careful in discussing where things stand. He plays a major role in these conversations and William is very loyal, as you would expect.

I thought that the package from us that Erick was talking about was Hanifin and Tanev for that. I would agree that Ruzicka and Tanev for Schneider and a 2nd would be a fair trade.

Yes there was a bit of confusion with the two deals brought up but he clarified it was the Tanev/Ruzicka deal he was talking about.
I agree with you Hanifin and Tanev that return is not near enough for me.

Hope Nylander gets Brad to bend over backwards bigtime. He’s not in McDavids stratosphere but he’s a definite star, carrying the Leafs when Matthews takes a day off.

If the deal is anything less than what Huberdeau got, Nylander should fire his agent.

Will be interesting to see how the timing of these trades work out. Who gets dealt early and who gets dealt on trade deadline day? In recent years, the top players have mostly been traded before the actual trade deadline. What’s unique for Calgary is just how many of the top players on trade boards the flames have. Can’t recall many times one team has 3 of the top 5 trade targets this late into a season. Most trades for top players happen after weeks/months of back-and-forth with teams. Some trades will be easier to make than others and might not require much as much negotiating to get done.
For example, I think Lindholm will be a trade that is fairly easy to get done because it’s clear he is going to free agency. That makes him a rental and the cost for acquiring a player like him as a rental is fairly established IMO based on similar players traded in recent years (O’Reilly and Horvat should be close templates to follow). Basically, it should be a first round pick + a second round pick + a B-level prospect. Complications can come up from teams trying to “take advantage” of Conroy being a new GM by trying to low-ball him.
Hanifin can be a complex trade if it becomes a sign-and-trade but should have the biggest return. If it’s a sign-and-trade, I think he should return a first round pick + an A-level prospect. If he is just a rental, then I think it should return something similar to Lindholm
Tanev can be tough to assess as far as returns because he could definitely return a first round pick from some teams while others it’s likely something like a 2nd round pick + 3rd round pick. Depends on where the teams are sitting come the TDL and what assets they have.
Markstrom is the most complex trade to make IMO because of his NTC, his cap hit, his term and because goalie trades are hard to assess. Not sure if this trade gets done before the TDL. Some people have speculated a return of a first round pick for Markstrom. I really have no idea what you could get for him. I can’t remember the last time a goalie trade returned a first round pick… but there are some good teams that are desperate for goaltending this year so who knows.

Comparing the Nylander and Gaudreau extensions is interesting considering the same agent and GM are involved. We know that Johnny missed training camp waiting for a deal after his ELC. We know Nylander sat out for months until the final minute to sign his deal after his ELC. We know both players for the most part out performed their 6 year deals and have/having a career year in their contract year where each player looks to be one of the best all around wingers in the game. It is almost certain because Treliving opted to wait instead of signing the players to 9.5 and $10M deals he will now have to shell out significantly more to keep Nylander just like he went to $10.5M with Gaudreau
Differences seem to be the fact that Nylander is negotiating in season where Johnny cut it off when a deal couldn’t be done. Nylander seems like he wants to stay in Toronto more than Johnny wanted to stay in Calgary. There isn’t a home town or home area that Nylander is eager to get back to. Nylander’s dad played in the league and I believe is playing a much larger factor in squeezing the Leafs on this deal than we realized.
I have a hard time seeing Toronto keeping Nylander and then giving Marner a new contract with a raise next year.

Marner seems to be the potential odd man out given Nylanders consistency and rise this season. I’d guess in a year we’ll be hearing whispers of a Marner deal. Years ago there was conversation of Marner+ for McAvoy. Marner is very good but this playoffs we’ll see if he disappears. Something has to give with the aging defence and at some point a deal will have to be made to get that in order.

I don't see them trading Marner. Keep in mind Tavares will be coming off the books and is expected to sign a big discount deal to stay in Toronto.

Leaves them basically in the same spot but older. If they don't go deep this playoffs I could see them shifting around Marner for some better defencemen and then using the cap space on terrible UFA signings
