It's Lindholm's contract year. He ain't lighting it up.

Yeah, Tkachuk just seems wired differently though.
I’m still happy with the trade, not what happened after. Interesting to think about.

He sure is.
A couple of career years in contract years while the other 4 remained in the 50 point range.
Now he is on pace for 10 goals this year.

Florida fans are just as surprised but they say he hasn't been the same since playing through insane injuries like playing through several playoff games with the broken sternum and having his brother have to help him put on his equipment. Tkachuk is young enough to rebound and fundamentally a hungrier player than Huberdeau. He also lost Bennett as a linemate to injury for most of this year. Bennett was also supposed to be a key to Huberdeau? How is this unholy Tkachuk-Bennett-Huberdeau trinity so tied to Calgary's misfortunes lol.

I think Lindy is one of those guys that only has one gear and his offensive production is largely based on the linemates he's playing with. I have nothing against him or anything but I'm glad that he didn't sign the contracts the Flames were offering him earlier as I think he helped the Flames far more than he helped himself as I don't see him getting that big payday he thought he may have been getting before the season started.

I'm been told many times Sutter was an owner hire. Even if he wasn't Sutter certainly turned on a dime and went somewhat nuts.
The other two ... one one the Vezina the year before, the other had a 115 point season.

A few years back I argued that the main reason why fans still liked Treliving's work, but hated Sutter's was that they had time to evaluate the aftermath of what Sutters moves left through hindsight. It will be interesting to see how GMs are rated in a couple of seasons as this plays out.
Definitely getting to the point where Conroy will really start to put his stamp on this team in the next 6 months.

so its nobodies fault?
IDK to me it certainly seems like Brad knew he was gone and was reckless in his last season. Trading a first to get rid of Monahan's contract? like WTF does he care right.
seems like dirty pool in hindsight. Other than a family relationship what on earth did he do to get the one of the most desirable jobs in hockey? Looks like that will crash and burn soon enough though.
Brad went all in on last season which seems insane in hindsight

The surprise for me this year is Lindholm not playing up in a contract year. Pair that with the ask from his side and I'm bewildered. Said it before that Lindholm will be lucky if he nets a long term deal over 7 million.
Dudes my favorite Flame and he's just gone flat. It's a bummer.

Tkachuk would have still got 9.5M wherever he wanted lets be real here. "Nobody" bails on a first place team that drafted and developed him a year before UFA either...until Tkachuk. I certainly can't think of any others.
Flames have let players run their show for so long and now everyone wants to take advantage of them.
Brad was thrilled to give Tkachuk exactly what he wanted, he thanks Brad regularly for being so accommodating
Mr. nice guy has gotten the Flames so far with great contracts and players

Nothing about Treliving's resume or suggestion of integrity supports any of that.
He was building the Flames in the way he thought best.
Couldn't work with Sutter any more.
Said him or me.
They took Sutter.
He quit.
Don't see any more to the story than that.

The interview with Tkachuk gushing about Treliving said it all. Everyone got exactly what they wanted -- other than the Calgary Flames. What a GM.

So Treliving never made a good coaching hire.

I think Treliving definitely deserves a fair bit of blame in how this team is built. And I think he probably didn't really care too much about the future of the club in his last year. But I can't think he deliberately sabotaged the team. He panicked when his two biggest stars bolted.
I think he's just a below average gm that had a faulty plan that was at least partly dictated by ownership.
He could talk up a storm in front of fans and media but couldn't walk the walk. I don't foresee many Stanley Cups in Toronto under his guidance.
