Don't know too many people who don't like Bulgogi(KBBQ)/Dumplings/Tempura. Bet he likes one of those.
My MIL from China is the same but the opposite way. She thought all western food, except for fries and pizza for some reason are terrible. She simply hasn't tried enough variety and doesn't want to assuming it's all the same. Her views won't change but she admits there are aspects of western cuisine she now enjoys after reluctantly trying with us.

To be clear I didn’t say I hate all Asian food, I said I don’t like it and maybe should have clarified I don’t like what I have tried. I am sure there is some dish that I would like but obviously when you try a lot of it and don’t like it at some point you stop trying it.
I do not like tempura for the batter so can say that is a no, Bulgogi beef I can eat but wouldn’t chose it if it was an option but don’t hate it. Dumplings are always bland to me I imagine if I put enough Tabasco on them they would be fine but again not something I am choosing to eat.

Unreal to hate an entire continent given the variety and depth of flavours. Brutal.
On a related note, cilantro sucks major ass. I'm a REALLY adventurous eater overall; I'll eat it if I absolutely have to, but it's the only ingredient in the world that I will actively ask to have removed from an order.

I have dealt with this before when bringing it up to friends and people off line and it always amazes how people seem to take personal offense to others having different tastes in food.
English people especially can’t believe that anyone can find curry to be the worst thing ever to eat. LOL

I'm ok with Cilantro. I like most Asian food and spices.
FENNEL...tastes like black licorice to me, and must be very carefully used lest it ruin a dish.

I absolutely hated cilantro for years, especially after visiting Mexico in university on a binge trip. The salsa was inedible because of it. Everything was vile.
Avoided it for years until I accidentally had it again. Now I love it. No other food I’ve changed my view that sharply. It is a weird flavour that needs more study.
How do you hate most asian food?
Western Chinese is pretty bad, the mall stuff especially. Ate at South Silk Road once and that was good, or go with a Chinese dude who orders better stuff than chicken balls (god those are awful).
I think Viet is best. Thai good too, Korean is probably better than what I’ve had, although they seem to have the most evolving food (here). Do Korean youth seek restaurant careers more than Chinese? Because it seems that way.
If you want to be converted though, go see Sanjay at The Himalayan. Beat food and better family.

The single worst take out/restaurant order readily available in this country. I don’t even know what you are doing with your life if you’re wasting money and stomach space on these.

Does cilantro make a dish any better? I have never heard anyone say they love cilantro. Usually it’s more along the lines of, not minding it. If it’s not contributing a lot as a garnish, why not just save the effort and leave it out. It’s like if someone hated parsley; if it disgusted people as much as cilantro disgusts people, I’d be okay if it was just omitted.

How much better? If it didn’t come with it, would you go through the bother of asking for it?

It makes guac better. Hell, a lot of mexican food. Couldn't make chermoula sauce without it either; lots of good north african dishes that feature it. As noted above, it's used in a lot of south asian cuisine, and south american too... so that's basically about half the world?

I like Western Chinese! Vietnamese is fantastic too though. Korean in Calgary I find to be hit or miss, but it can be really good.
And I hope Sanjay at the Himalayan doesnt beat his family better than he beats his food. He sounds like a stand-up guy.

Himalayan is the best restaurant experience in Calgary, when all factors are considered.
