No interest in moving Weegar right now. He's our best defenseman at a great cap hit. We still need some NHL'ers during any rebuild, and wouldn't be surprised if Weegar's leadership really shines through during that phase too.

The fact they almost closed the Hanifin deal makes me wonder if they want another vet on the blueline.
He was signed during that losing streak.
I would much rather sign someone in free agency to a 2 year deal or something to fill the gap while we wait for some players to mature.
The loss of Kylington really stings.

Speaking of Kylington, any word on how he's progressing?

With every win Craig and the crew delve further into that meddling mediocrity and the fear of actually making a big trade as it seems they think we can compete long term and are scared to move someone of “impact”
Such a crappy situation

I don't believe so. I think and believe that the only guy the Flames may entertain keeping is Tanev. The other two, good as gone. Only question is when. I'd prefer it to be asap but deadline is fine.

I just don't see it happening. If it happens, yeah...that'll be tough - but I see it as very unlikely that this team stands pat/adds/makes trades focused on the short term.
They have emphatically proven that they are nowhere near good enough. The top end of their roster is missing a...top end.

I worry less with Conroy (and Iginla in his corner) running the show than with Treliving. Conroy was pretty vocal that you can't let UFAs walk to free agency and talks a lot about how talented young players are these days. Plus, he also made sure that young players in the system are getting NHL time.
I think Conroy's going to stay on track no matter what happens. Unless by some miracle, they start going on a historic run where they look like they could win the Cup. Realistically, that isn't anything to worry about.

He’s going to have gone two full years without playing NHL hockey and lost development before this is said and done. Good luck to the person but it’s probably time to write the hockey player off.

If we still had Tre as a GM... I would pencil in Dumba, and Gostisbehere as our 2nd pairing next year.
Right now, I would love Conroy to take a run at one of the upcoming RFAs in Durzi, Lindgren, Moser, or Liljegren.
Otherwise, I wouldn't mind a Gustafsson/Dillon - Brodie/Tanev stopgap 2nd paring.

Weegar's actually one of the vet players that's on a fair contract for what he brings to the table, so he's probably got a TON of value. That being said, I'd want people to come at me with offers and I would not be specifically shopping him.

I like those options… I could see a mix of RFA players and bargain signings of someone like Brodie. Good stopgaps for a rebuilding team.

We’ll be getting serviceable vets on 2-3 year contracts back in our UFA trades for picks and prospects. So there won’t be a problem icing a legit NHL team after the trades are made.

If the Avs were to do that, they'd be damaging their depth on the back end so I struggle to see them doing such a move as they gear up for a run.
...Avs fans in that thread seem oddly okay with moving Byram, but their concern is it being for a rental...I mean, extensions can be negotiated...
Also on the crazy side of things - Pat continues to try and wish Brandt Clarke into reality on the Fan

Yep, if that's on the table for Lindy you pull the trigger before the end of the phone call.
Kind of interesting if you piece together rumors.
Lindy for Byram, Byram take Hanifins slot, Hanifin for McLeod ++ McLeod takes Lindholms statistical spot. (I.e similar stats minus some assists). We don't get worse and get some extra bits out of it.

If you're going to forum police then you should do so equitably.
You should go after users with all viewpoints thay do this.
Seems like your targeting a certain subset.
Don't want to name names but theres been posters disparaging the idea that anyone was against the trades. Havnet seen you call them out.

A PPG RHS D man in the AHL at 20 years old? If I had to wager, I'd wager the Kings hang up the phone any time the 1st syllable of his name is uttered.
