Zary and Hubey score.
Kind of a tough game for both of those guys, who seem to do better in a more free flowing game.

I'd never cheer for a loss, but the Flames better not finish outside of the bottom 10 this season.

You'd have to think a team under .500 to this point and looking to move three key assets wouldn't have a late season charge.

Bottom three spots are sewn up, but the Flames are likely in that next group of 5 teams by the looks of it.

Columbus probably has spot 5 in ink.

Team 5 gets you a 5.1% chance at a top three
Team 6 5.9%
Team 7 6.7%
Team 8 7.6%

That's why I'm not feeling the need to cheer for losses. Hope they win and endorse the silver lining when they don't.

For 2.5% total difference why have the soul sucking experience?

It is already a soul sucking experience being a flames fan, hence the desire for more losses to have a better shot at a generational player to change things up.. and finally be a successful franchise again.

I've actually found the team pretty entertaining this year.

I'm glad they're on a path to likely move the three UFAs (would have had my head around signing Hanifin), but I'm also glad they're much more entertaining than last season.

Sure, but picking 5th instead of 8th is usually quite a difference in player quality. It's not just about the lottery odds.

I have a hard time calling it a soul sucking experience. At least I don't feel bad when we lose. If the effort is there, and the games are entertaining, I don't really care if it's a W/L this season.

Or is the act of cheering for the loss that is blasphemous/soul sucking?

I think we'll be a much worse team after the deadline, that's why I see the Flames having a legitimate chance at a top 5 pick with the defense of:
Weegar - Andersson
Gillbert - Oesterle
Solovyov - DeSimone

Yeah the actively hoping for the team to lose while watching is soul sucking.

I've enjoyed the games this year as well.

I think the team will go on a ten game losing streak once Osterle/DeSimon/Gilbert are playing top 4 minutes regularly. I am not to worried about it. Give me entertaining games and I am happy

Mediocrity is most soul sucking than anything, at least on a long term basis.

Sure, when the team is mediocre, individual games are more fun to watch. But over time the general apathy and snarky pessimism of the fanbase becomes overwhelming.

All I hope for is entertainment. Just be entertaining, win or lose. Flames have been entertaining this season - at least after the first 10 games or so. They are playing well, they are playing with effort, and they are making plays out there.

As for wins and losses - I think it is important for the Flames to finish as low in the standings as possible. However, Flames are too good to out-suck San Jose, Chicago and probably Anaheim. There are other teams hovering around the Flames, but they seem like they have less to sell. So, I just enjoy the wins as they come now, and I know that in the 2nd half of the season, the league tightens up and wins become harder to get, 3 point games become more common, and the Flames have the most talent rumoured to be on the market from all the bottom teams, so they are likely to drop in the standings relative to who else is around them.

Just enjoy the wins the wins for now - they won't last. I have the Flames - barring any lottery good or bad luck - picking 4th overall, unless Anaheim goes on some heater. Buffalo, Columbus, etc., are all going to blow by the Flames as they are not going to sell - they need to show their fans that they are improving.

Either way, Flames are fun this season. I was really happy when Conroy was promoted, and I was 'satisfied' with Huska (though I had doubts at the time). Conroy gives me hope, and Huska is making sure that the games are competitive and entertaining.

Flames haven't won a cup since '89. However, since then there has been many terribly boring seasons, and there have been many entertaining seasons. This one thus far is highly entertaining, and it has some good story-lines. Just enjoy the show, win or lose.

I agree with you. It is largely out of our control so it does us no good to dwell on mediocrity. That said, it is always worth it, to me, to show publicly that fan base has the appetite for a full rebuild.

I haven't spent any money on the Flames this year, and won't unless they show a clear plan for the future. I do not want to take the Minnesota wild pathway. Give me the LA kings plan.
