I love Bob Mackenzie for everything he does and he is undeniably great but he is always such an apologist for the IIHF (but all of TSN is really). Would love for them to call out what a joke the IIHF is instead of making excuses for them.

This is why the IIHF will always be a joke.
At least call the five and review it - like they’ve done countless times this tournament.

Just take hitting out of the game and get on with it, it’s where the game is headed anyway.

Those advocating its “such a stupid call”, should shorter people just have to suffer head injuries because they’re shorter? I personally think if the rule is you can’t hit the head the rule is you can’t hit the head. Make it black and white. I think IIHF has it right here actually.

It’s probably better Canada has the tougher road to gold as they need to earn it and play better. I think getting a free trip to the semis wouldn’t help them any.

I feel like the US is the team to lose it, they’re just dialled in something else.
Or Canada’s archaic development model is starting to show itself.

How is it archaic? Haven’t they won gold like 3 years in a row? We aren’t entitled to it, other countries have athletes too.

Archaic model?

They won the last two tournaments and are a strong contender in a year they are missing Bedard, Fanitlli, Wright, Benson, Luneau, Molendyk, Korchinski. The first 3 arguably better than any forward for any team at this tournament.

Canada just sloppy again.

Outside of Geekie/Celebrini/Yager to some extent they just have no real scoring threat.

Too many pedestrian depth guys, really lacking the creativity and high end skill.

Lots of guys you’d hope to see more from that’s for sure.

Poitras for a guy who played a lot of games in the NHL this year has been massively underwhelming.

Two goals given up on four shots?

Really should have had Firkus on this team, I know they’ve flown him in now but don’t want to dress him until they can confirm Savoie can’t go.

Firkus is definitely a high risk creative player.

Poitras, Wood, Minten, Danielson, Cowan and Dumais all should be having way more impact but look borderline invisible out there 3 games in.

I had high hopes for Dumais too, he’s supposed to be the high end skill guy :/

two PP goals, including a 5 minute PP at the start of the game

the story isn't GER's 2 goals, it's that CDA has flubbed or missed about 5 open nets

Canada is dominating this game. People are acting like they’ve lost every game and suck.

I think Danielson has been fine for the minutes and role he has been given. I would like to see him given more ice time especially on the PP but when he is only used as a 4th liner not much more he can do.

I know he has put up some points in the tournament but I have not really noticed Wood very much in the tournament overall. Was expecting him to be more impressive considering how many people on the forum really wanted the flames to take him with their first round pick at last year’s draft. Granted, there have been lots of players on team Canada that have not really stood out or showed off much elite skill so far. Could just be the team struggling to get in sync.

The round robin portion is about points, and plays, and looking impressive.

But the medal round is playoff hockey, and I expect Canada will look better there

This team has all the bad habits that kill Canadian teams in this tournament. Over passing, trying to be too fancy, trying to skate the puck in the back of the net.

The problem is they don't have the talent to overcome it like the most other teams do.
