He will still be waiver exempt next season. Goalies have a longer exemption period than skaters.

The last time a goalie was traded at the deadline for a 1st was Ryan Miller in 2014.

Goalies are getting the running back treatment in hockey.
Less big money contracts, less drafted early. We can debate the value of goaltending, but the league has been trending in this direction for a number of years.
Heck, look at Vegas, Colorado, LA, top teams in the conference who’ve not invested in big name, big money goaltenders, using the cap space to build their roster elsewhere and going cheaper in net.
Maybe the pendulum swings back towards goalies again, but in a cap world where we’ve seen depreciated costs for any assets with a decent cap hit and term, I have my doubts.

Sure, but there are more contending teams who are in a disastrous situation with their goaltending this year than there has been in any year I can remember.
The fact that it hasn't happened in a while does not mean it will never happen again.

The last time the goaltending market was this tight and with so many potential buyers…?
The Flames are in a very good position when it comes to the market, much to your chagrin.

There just seems to be so much opportunity to sell a lot of guys and really Kickstart a rebuild. I just hope at least half the guys being talked about move.

I want to see a bidding war between Leafs and Devils. Tre, git'er done and send us Nylander or Knies! Jack Hughes would be fine as well

I can honestly see Calgary keeping Tanev, but the other two remaining UFAs will be gone. I'm curious which angle the Flames are gonna play their goaltending out.
And I wouldn't be upset whatsoever if they moved Mang and Dube either. It's clear they're in need of a change of scenery.

I'd be OK with giving Tanev a 3 year deal I'd they also trade Hanifin,Lindy, markstrom and hopefully one of Dube or Mangiapani

What goaltenders are worth big contracts today? We are in an era with few goaltenders in the league with HOF resumes. Maybe Quick squeeks in, Vasilevskiy has a chance, Hellebuyck alongshot as the league is simply in a period devoid of great goaltenders.

Lots of big money goalies have had struggles too - so even if you get the best one they could have a bad stretch or an injury, then what? Having two great goalies is very expensive, or you have to get lucky developing one in house and supplement them with a vet or decent backup. Still expensive.
It's better to build a strong possession team with great D that can mitigate a struggling star goalie or journeyman goalie. I'd rather the Flames go in that direction too. Right now we are paying what, $8.5-9 million for an average goaltending tandem?
Intentional or not, what LA is doing this year is an eye opener.

Toronto in trouble again.
They’re going to piss the season away here if Brad doesn’t get them a goalie.
Looks like they’re going to have to pay the price if they want to extend the window with the core… tick tock Brad.

This is very true, but part of me thinks that you need to at LEAST find a goalie that can be somewhat good at stopping pucks. Lots of meh goalies at the moment.

Friedman talking about goalie woes and who could be buyers and sellers. Listed Calgary in the “Not Yet” column when he talks about moving a keeper. Time for Conroy to fall into the sellers category. It’s time…this team isn’t good enough and we all know that Markstrom could get a big haul with so many teams showing desperation. Even if you have to retain salary at this point, it could be worth the sacrifice depending on what the return is.

Was he speaking of goalies specifically or just talking about the mindset of the listed teams, generally?

Was heavily focused on Toronto. Mentioned they don’t have a lot of enthusiasm for what’s out there and also they don’t have much to give up in terms of picks or prospects.

Mindset of teams and where they would fit.
Toronto looks to be waiting for Woll to come back. Good luck with that.
Goalie market is voodoo just like goalies. Lots of talk but imagine very little action. Goalies are more valuable to teams than they are on the trade market.

I don't think Treliving is super high on Vladar and they can't afford Markstrom.
