Depends on where you live, but I've been to some rural acreages in the US with enough firepower for an entire militia. A former friend living in Montana was shot dead in his back yard with his own assault rifle. Left his cabinet unlocked and tried to confront the guy as he was running off at about 3AM. Case still unsolved 12 years later.

His family's solution was to buy more guns and join an NRA advocacy group.

Generalization.
According to the 2021 FBI crime stats, 60% of solved homicides in the US are done by one ethnic group.

Non-Hispanic white Americans (59% of the population) commit less than 20% of solved homicides.

Dude. We're just making fun of U.S. Americans and their inability (as a country) to equate everyone walking around with a handgun to hospitals that are so overrun with gunshot wounds, that people can't get "normal" injuries looked after.

Nobody's talking about homicides, and certainly no one's talking about race.

(also, your solved vs unsolved conundrum can just as easily be explained by people focusing on solving crimes commited by one race vs another - i also have the sense that there's more willingness to "close a file by any means" when it comes to some races vs others, whether the person convicted actually did it or not [in certain States])

What percentage of the homicides are committed by Finnish hockey players.

Nah, it devolved into an anti gun thread. Or did you not notice the last few dozen posts?

Yet despite all the guns, Montana usually has a lower homicide rate than Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Gun laws and amount of guns don't correlate with gun violence. America has a gang/cartel/thug problem. Not guns.

Homicides are the best thing to go by because of differences in reporting violent crime.

This actually makes it worse, the homicide clearance rate in larger high crime cities is often under 50%.

America doesn't have a gun problem. Boring. Of course it does.

Anyways, this is the Valimaki thread. Can we please get it back on track. There's a U.S. gun thread in the OT section.

Valimaki loves hockey and is having fun again.

Although he may prefer the Finnish medical system?
