He may be the best player on the best team but it doesn't feel like a MVP season when you look at numbers for other guys.
CMC has 21.

You have a very good point, but voters tend to get tunnel vision when a QB leads his team to a #1 seed. They attribute a team accomplishment to one player. It's unfair, but it is what it is.

The Ravens actually let their RBs smash it in from the 1 and 2 because they play a team game and not some dumb pad the stats with a tush push rush TD
There’s a reason Gus has 12 TDs.
Lamar could easily have 5 -7 more rushing TDs if they wanted but I don’t think 1 yard sneaks vs letting your RB punch it in really changes your value (unless your the Eagles who seems more concerned with rush pushes then winning games or giving the odd TD to the workhorse RBs)
It’s a weird season in that I agree Lamar hasn’t had to be amazing - just good in big situations . But his offense has lost their best player (Andrews) and 2 RBs and continues to hum along like nothing has changed - and there is a reason for that
I would be fine seeing CMC win it (I would even vote for him) but voters don’t vote for RBs unless they have all world seasons (which he isn’t - it’s a great year but not historic) AND the 49ers just lost to the Ravens on National TV / Game of the Year and while CMC was very good , he wasn’t amazing
If Lamar beats Miami next week I don’t seen any way Tua or Hill gets it , which means MVP would then come down to Allen who on the whole has played worse then Lamar - or the NFC QBs which continue to get embarrassed on National TV
If Miami beats Baltimore it opens all sorts of opportunities

The tush push isn’t a pad the stats play. It’s a play they use because it works 95%+ of the time.

If ever a WR could win the MVP it should have been Cooper Kupp two years ago. So with missing a full and a big chunk of a second one that will make it nearly impossible for Hill to win. Tua if he has a game like last year against Baltimore and another good one against Allen and the Bill's is the one guy who might be able to still make a claim.
By playing in every game I think McAfferey is pretty much cemented as OPOY. He's close to what he did in 2019 and no QB is having anything close to Mahomes 2019 season. So he might get some MVP votes.

It's just been an odd season overall, why shouldn't the MVP race be odd? How does the MVP front runner go from favorite to no shot of winning in one game? That's what Purdy just did. Lamar's the favorite now, but if he goes out next week and plays like Purdy just did he too would be close to no shot after that. If Tua plays great, he's the favorite, but he suffers a similar bed ####ting in week 18 and they lose the #1 seed, he's likely out too. It's been the year of mediocrity, that the MVP winner will be the most mediocre MVP in recent history seems about right.
One thing baseball has over the NFL is it's a lot easier to prove who MVP is, it's why Ohtani and Trout have multiple MVPs on a last place team. You could argue Calvin Johnson deserved MVP in 2012 because that's how valuable he was to the Lions, but a player on a 4-12 team will never even get a sniff in the NFL.

McNair had the most pedestrian QB stats for a MVP. If Lamar keeps pace his 21 passing TD would be the worst. Barely cracking 20 passing TD and winning MVP is something. I understand his importance to the team but it didn't seem that way during the offseason.
It's always funny that towards week 14 you have players and teams playing to get someone the MVP.

I like to see a lot of consistency from an MVP and someone that can be relied upon every single game. Lamar has been too inconsistent this season in my opinion. Tua is definitely the front runner.

Inconsistent ? How ?
The Ravens have lead every game into the final 2 minutes. One game they lost when their WR drops an open TD. One they loses when the ref misses a clear face mask and holding in the last minute and Tucker misses the FG to win as time expired.
Cleveland 2nd half is the only time he was bad all season - the pick 6 was horrible in the 4th quarter and cost him the game
He is operating with his 2 most explosive RBs out for the year and Gus Edwards as the RB1 . He is missing his best offensive weapon in Andrews
His Left Tackle can’t even play entire games from all his injuries . ODB has been a bust , Bateman and Aglohor can barely catch a ball that hit them square in the hands ! (Flowers has been a godsend)
The Ravens skilled players (who are still playing ) on offense rank right towards the bottom of the league - and Lamar has lead every game with 2 minutes left
I don’t think Lamar is the best player in the league . I don’t think he has been the best player this league . However - I actually believe he is easily the most valuable player to his team in the league - and I don’t think it’s really close
Without Lamar the Ravens are the Jets with worse RBs and WRs (and with Andrews out no TE)

I feel so bad for Brees in that regard. Dude had some of the best QB seasons ever statistically, but it always came in years when there was some all-time QB performance elsewhere. His 2011 season is probably the best QB non-MVP season in NFL history. Plenty of MVP winners in other years that didn't come close to his performance that season.
That said, I'm sure he's content with the Super Bowl MVP he won. Still doesn't feel right he was never regular season MVP.

Don't think you see a class like that again. Rodgers, Brady, Manning and Brees.
Even the tier below guys like Rivers, Romo and Eli.

I really dont understand this statement.
His throwing numbers aren't "great", but they are still pretty good.
Add in his rushing numbers and he, IMO, is easily the best QB in the league this year.
Im no Raven fan either....but goodness if I am ANY team in the league, that group is the very last one i want to face.....Niners right behind.

Yup. Russ era ends in Denver and they’re gonna eat that dead cap. Maybe he will restructure and facilitate a trade. Denver’s GM is gonna be ####canned next

I wonder if they still do that if they're 8-7 going into this week. Long term, it's the right move for sure to not let that injury guarantee vest. But would be hard to sell to a group that fought back from 1-5 that you play the last two games with a lesser QB if you had a better shot.

Maybe but that’s all hypotheticals. Any fan being honest with themselves sees that 5 game streak and recognizes it was against backups and JAGs (and a sick Mahomes). They’re much worse than their record indicates. Russ can’t throw to the middle of the field, it’s a bad marriage. Get gone Russ

it is amazing that the GM has had a job through this, he clearly made some horrible franchise altering moves. thinking diva Wilson was the answer is comical.
