If I were coaching this player, I’d spend ten minutes at the end of each practice feeding Huberdeau one timers in the slot.
Hit the puck as hard as you can, dude. There’s one way forward.
Nobody expects you to shoot, so shoot. Develop a slap shot. Nobody uses them anymore anyway, which means there isn’t a shot in the arsenal goalies are less adapted to pick up.
Remember Huberdeau’s first goal as a Flame? It was a beautiful little button hook at the blue line followed by a missile of a wrist shot - bar down, goal. It’s not like he doesn’t have it in him.
Guy has to remember who he is.

The Coyotes are a front that exists solely for the rest of the league to launder dead cap money.
Change my mind.

This has also been discussed fairly extensively by journalists when the topic of Coyotes relocation comes up. Bettman does not want to leave the area due to, in part, its population and its expected population growth.
This isn’t hard information to find.

That’s why I said I’d be surprised if they left. That place isn’t the 5th largest city though. That list has Mesa (AZ) above Atlanta, hah.

Huberdeau's contract is a joke. This guy is living the life of a spoiled millionaire. We want a player who's hungry for success.

Which should be Huberdeau. How many playoff rounds has he won? 1?
Supporting cast is really there for the Flames right now.

Just curious what you mean by that? as far as I know the border laws haven't changed since 1980's Reagan, Donald (the racist) Trump pushed thru a temporary covid restriction but that expired on it's own. I suspect right wing Kool-aid is at work.

I have no interested in politics. Just saying what I see from living here. If they came since Reagan then they came since Reagan.
Btw, I am an immigrant myself so no need to lecture about immigration and race

I agree, the contract is terrible but if you think Huberdeau is not hungry for success you clearly don't know anything about the guy.

Well, he’s the “star” with one of the best supporting casts in the league. Time to shine?

Phoenix is 10th largest metro population. City population does not mean much.

Neither does metro in many regards. For example, Dallas-Ft. Worth includes Bryan county in Oklahoma. Durant, the County Seat, is 95 miles from American Airlines Arena. That would be like including Red Deer and all centers between in Calgary's metro stats. If you're traveling more than an hour to get to an arena I think you're outside the target market.

Yeah, the way American cities are built I find city populations too small to mean anything and metro populations include too many communities/municipalities from far too big an area to mean anything.
I wish they'd come up with a new universal agreement on 'city + surrounding area within X miles of downtown' that gets calculated for the entire country.

450k pop for a major American city with 3-5million actual people living and working there is silly, but so is "we took this city, a neighbouring major city, a few towns that are an hour and half away in random directions, jumped a state over to grab this other small city and BAM, huge metro!"

It really depends on what’s being measured. In this case, the issue would be the population within reasonable distance of the arena for potential attendance purposes. So in Calgary you’d include Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, Milalrville, Diamond Valley, Springbank and possibly even Canmore, Brooks, High River, etc. You could see people wanting to attend a game form those areas.

True enough, we all want the same thing here. I know you didnt say it but i dont want the Flames giving up assets to acquire players he had success with before, this is clearly a different player now. i honestly dont think he would be a difference maker at the AHL level at this point.

He’s had a year and a half to adjust and he seems to be getting worse rather than better. He still tries hard. He’s quite good at puck retrievals. But honestly. Offensively he looks wrecked. Zero confidence. Lost.
No idea how to change that at this point. He absolutely needs a change of scenery.

the fact that he has already seen a mental coach and is still this bad isn't a good sign. i dont even think a change of scenery would turn him into a point a game guy.

Fair enough, but the "open border" talk is a just a talking point from the extreme right even know the laws were put in place by the right 40 years ago, fact is the border has never seen so many migrants from central america, makes you wonder who air dropped pamphlets in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras saying get to the US border for a new life.
