on HNIC Friedman says that teams with surplus goaltenders are basically extorting teams looking for goalies especially if retention is involved

Deep!?!
Did you mean derp?
Oilers are a lot of things but deep is not one of them...Flames are deeper

And the media and the fans blame it all on them when things go bad whether they deserve it or not.
If I'm a goalie who can control where I go Edmonton is at the bottom of my list.

A goaltender and at least one defensive minded defenseman. Ironically the Flames have what the Oilers need, unfortunately I don't think the Oilers have the goods the Flames want/need. The Oilers with Markstrom and Tanev could be quite formidable, much to the chagrin of Flames fans. Thankfully the Oilers don't have the assets or the cap space to make a deal for the players they need. Draisaitl and McDavid will move on in the next two years, because the team knows they can't afford to move them, and the Oilers will begin a very painful rebuild.

But bad deal for Calgary? Like c'mon, some of you guys are going to very disappointed in the returns if you can't even like that proposal.

Maybe I am just blinded by having a 5’8 center as a main part of the package coming to a team that has their top 3 offensive forward prospects already at 5’9, 5’10 and 6’0. That would have to be the smallest core group of offensive forwards in the NHL. I would also be very surprised if Stankoven played as a center at the NHL level, not many guys that small play center. If he does not play center it would just be picking up another winger.

I think that'd be a pretty big improvement for the Oilers, I'd maybe look at it for their next 2 firsts unprotected and Broberg. They'd be instantly better for some long term pain, although it would suck if it actually made them legitimate.

Firmly agree. One more good D and a competent Goalie, and suddenly they are contenders, whether we like it or not.

So we take back a lesser piece just for size reasons? And he is better than all of our wingers so lets move out the crappier ones not pass on the quality one.
But it doesn't really matter because Dallas isn't going to give up on him anyways.

Coleman could potentially land us a haul.
I think packaging him and Tanev to Dallas would be something.

Better than all our wingers? He hasn't even played a game at the NHL level.

Yes going forward he is better than the wingers we have which isn't much of a bar to reach with the level of "talent" we have.

I assume he means trying to extort teams, because I haven’t seen this happen yet.

This has nothing to do with the Grinch, just pointing out that Stankoven is a top quality prospect.
It is ok to admit players from other organizations are good too.

Sure, it’s also OK to admit that calling a 21 year old prospect who hasn’t played a game in the NHL yet “better than all of our wingers” is dumb.
Maybe he will be, but he wouldn’t be the first AHL scoring leader or 2nd round pick who didn’t figure it out in the NHL.

If the Flames can pick up a first for Coleman, I would do that 10/10 times. There will still be plenty of veterans on the team (Kadri, Huberdeau, Backlund etc.). Not to mention, guys like Sharangovich and Dube are also in their mid 20s.
Keep Dube and Mangiapane this year too. Then, hopefully one of them pops next year (hopefully Mangiapane in a contract year) and that's when you trade him.

Flames might actually have a market for Markstrom. They should strike while they can.

Haha. Looking at Stankovens AHL production next to Stromgrens is quite comical.
I remember some CPers being pretty pissed when the Flames passed on Stankoven and took Stromgren instead.
