Glad to see someone else give JB some love. I’ve been a fan since his draft year.

Yeah that sucks thinking about Eichel, locking down a young all star center like that would have really set the flames up to go head to head with anybody for a while and just as importantly I feel like would have increased likelihood of keeping Tkachuk having a similarly aged high end USA hockey teammate in the fold, but the injury risk wasn't insignificant. I will say that I thought at the time that Krebs was ridiculously overrated and couldn't really understand why people thought he was so much better than Zary and Buffalo made a bad call there but they also saw upside in Tuch that I don't think many believed was there and it worked out ok for them....

This trade is brought to you by Viagra.
The NHL is missing out on additional revenue by not having trade sponsors.

We all would do that now but at that time it would have been difficult.
If a deal revolving around Mangiapane was possible, we missed out big time.

It wouldn't have felt like a "win" initially as it took roughly a year for Eichel to get up to speed if we had sent them Tkachuk, but longer term it would've been a win for the team, especially with his contract running through 2025-26.
Hard to imagine how different things would be. There would be no Huberdeau or Weegar here. With Lindholm in the fold, not sure they go after Kadri either (so Monahan is potentially still in the fold as well).
Team would be fully immersed in their Just Get In! mindset for the duration of that contract though, no matter how they performed on the ice. Some bad extensions are probably signed to try to complement him. Just replace the current mistakes with totally different ones. But at least they'd have that dreamy #1C and #1 starter.

Apparently Lebrun mentioned the Canes as a team to watch in the Lindholm sweepstakes, in the Athletic.
I think they need a goalie first and foremost….

Crazy thing is immediately after the Eichel trade the Flames won the division and the Knights missed the playoffs
I also get the feeling the Sabres used the Flames to negotiate with Vegas...realistically guys like Tkachuk weren't signing with Buffalo. They can say final two teams but its impossible to know if Buffalo was actually interested in the Flames offering

We'll send them Lindholm and Markstrom for a bundle of their best prospects including Jarvis.

Kevin Weekes claims the top two teams in on Tanev are NJ and Dallas.

If we are into the rebuild, I honestly think that Rasmus needs to be dealt at the deadline. He would return a kings ransom at his full cap hit for 3 playoff runs. I would argue that he would return more than anyone else.
I’m talking 1 top prospect, 1 1st rounder, 2 2nd rounders.

Hopefully we can extract the Kris Russell package with Dallas again.
Conditional 2nd (becomes 1st if they make the conference finals), depth d-man and prospect.

Deal with him in the offseason or next year. No point in muddling the other trades by adding another dman to the availability list.

I would really want Bourque from them.
Forget the picks, forget the conditions, just send us Bourque.

Tanev on Dallas would be dynamite. I could see him thriving there. But that said, they'll have to pay to get him. Would rather send him to the Eastern Conference.

I'd want Necas over Jarvis.
The biggest problem though is Carolina doesn't really have much to unload in the way of contracts. Freddy Andersen maybe?
There's not a lot of cap room to play with when dealing with them.

Slight tangent,
How good is Eichel? As someone who doesn't watch him much (well not at all) Is he an elite center? Now that he's back from injury, and established himself on a cup winning team, is he one of the too centres in the league? Or is he kind of settling into that top tier, but not elite, type of guy?

Still chaps my ass so hard that we picked Stromgren over Stankoven. Getting Stankoven in a tanev trade would be a huge win.

Well, he's over a ppg and the leading scorer on one of the best teams in the league, defending stanley cup champs that he was a big part in leading through the playoffs.
I would say he's pretty comfortably in the top tier.

50% retained on Lindholm and take De Angelo and Andersen back might work

His all around play in the playoffs was elite. Still a PPG player too.
