Flashing lights? Pfft. I don't even think they use whistles anymore.

As someone who is in a cul de sac directly across from a K-9 school the things I have seen parents do in the pursuit of ensuring their kid gets dropped off within 50 yards of the school is astounding. We have had people park in or block our driveway and refuse to move saying their kid will be out in 5 minutes. I have seen some of the most ridiculous, dangerous, illegal moves as well.
Go 2 blocks away and streets are empty with clear path in and out. Little Johnny could safely walk that, get a bit of independence and you wouldn’t be a menace to society.

Sometimes if you're lucky enough there will be a network of pathways that allow you to park far away from the school and the kids can take the short cut.

They should be given authority smash windows with their stop signs.
I’d love to ban drop off and pick up at school. No stopping in two block radius.

I think it's ok for people who have time and want to drop their kid off in front of the school and not have them have to cross the street. The kid also doesn't have to open the door. I think that's a viable option for stay-at-home moms with smaller children, nannies etc...
It's the parents that are in a hurry, need to get somewhere else, panicking in the line, stopping in the wrong place and then doing u-turns, or just plain ignorant and selfish who are the problem. You know, the same people who park on other people's driveways and speed through playground zones. They want the best of both worlds.

My issue is that for 3 schools on the same street, the school I'm going to is the only one that doesn't have a crosswalk that goes from across the street to the school entrance. I have to go almost a block down in either direction to reach the crosswalk that in front of the other school entrances and walk back towards my child's school. Or I have to get to the other side of the road without using a U-turn and fight for one of the 4-6 spots that aren't almost all the way to the other school crosswalks.
Today, for a moment, I thought I saw the afterlife. At a 4 way stop by a different school, on my turn to go, as I enter into the intersection, the vehicles perpendicular to me going north and southbound (I was going Westbound) both lurched into the intersection. Not rolled in, lurched. Like they were going to compete in a drag race. I thought I was going to get double t-boned for a moment until both vehicles suddenly slammed on the brakes to avoid the collision. WTF is up with that? I'm not invisible.

I think taking the patrollers away have made things much worse. At the school in our neighbourhood, there is a crosswalk to the school across the main boulevard to get people in and out of the community. Instead of having patrollers there, gathering up several kids at once and having them cross at the same time, there is steady trickle of kids starting the crosswalk as another finishes. It creates huge back-ups and people driving through the crosswalk when they shouldn't, so parents do the drop off to avoid the crosswalk, jamming up the boulevard even more.

For some of these cross walks and some of these 4 ways stops, I wish there was a way to have a timer for vehicles to cross and a timer for pedestrians to cross. That way vehicles know it's their turn vs dealing with long groups of pedestrians that typically dawdle and then there's also a lot less confusion and frustration and it's also clear whose turn in the 4 way it is vs the order constantly changing because pedestrians.
That might introduce new issues, but I don't know what else you can do for areas around schools that randomly will have flashes of major vehicle and pedestrian volume for short durations.

People who u-turn near schools should be pulled out of their cars and beaten severely.

We have those, they're called traffic signals. The vehicles have red-amber-green lights, and the pedestrians have an orange hand and a white walking figure.

Their parents should understand a car is a privilege, which is easy to forget when you build four lane drive throughs for a McChoke&Pukes, carparks bigger than the actual event space, and the F150 is the new mini van. None of this is hyperbole.

Why do some parents insist on playing a tablet loudly for their kid on a flight with no head phones? Kid doesn’t like headphone? Too bad.Put headphones in for the kid. The 20 minutes of screaming was actually better than whatever the hell is being watched now that I’m subjected to while I try to read a book.
