The Tank: 1, Speeders on his street: 0
So, sometimes good things happen to those who wait. A bit of payback for me doing the right thing about 6 or 7 months ago? Maybe. Here is the skinny;
My street is essentially one block long, say 15 houses per side. I say essentially, because at my end of our street, it does a 90 degree turn north, with some three story walk up buildings at the corner. Very quiet street, not much traffic and you could live in London your whole life and never even really know its there.
I pulled into my driveway and put my car in reverse because I was going to park on the street because we were going out in my wife's car a little later. I check over my shoulder and see a white cargo van going, oh 90-100 km/h down the street. I know the van, because I have had a "discussion" with the driver about a month ago about the way he drives down our street. He picks somebody up/drops them off at the apartment buildings. It a VERY sensitive subject, because as of right now there a 11, yes 11, kids under 5 years old living on our street. Our previous conversation obviously meant nothing to MacDaddy (yes I call him that. Sideways hat wearing, jive-talking punk-ass white kid) as he turned around to go back the way he came at the same rate of speed. I had just gotten out of my car as he gunned it down the street. I yelled a stream of obsceneties that would put an army drill seargent to shame and whipped half an extra large Timmie's coffee off of his windsheild. So that was it. I snapped. I turned to walk in to call the cops.
Now, keep in mind that MacDaddy is doing all of this in his WORK VAN. Clearly marked with the company name in huge letters. Not the brightest kid I have ever talked to. Its a local Pool and Spa store, just blocks from my house.
So I am a couple of steps up the driveway to call the cops and glance over my shoulder to see, you guessed it, a cop car coming around the 90 degree corner. All I could think was "you have GOT to be kidding me!" The cop is rolling down her window and waving me over. I run over to her cruiser and she says "have you seen a such and such Pool and Spa van?" Oooooooh baby. Have I? So I relay all the info to her, tell her I saw him run the stop sign at the end of the street when he was leaving, his rate of speed, told her where the store is located and all that. And she was off in pursuit.
A couple of hours later, a cop car pulls up in front of our house. Its the same female officer from earlier. She asks if she can get a statement to tie up any loose ends. She caught MacDaddy, who lost his license TWO YEARS AGO!! So on top of that charge, the cop saw him run two more stop signs, so thats three including my statement, reckless driving, evading police (he refused to stop when she turned her lights on) and a list of other charges. Pure awesomeness on a Thursday afternoon!
Turns out the cop lives around the corner and is now my best friend! Karma baby, KARMA!!

Kick ass! I have some morons doing the same thing around my street. However, they're doing it on their bikes and they roar around the neighbourhood at like 1am in the morning.

Here is a google map of my street, just to give you an idea of how short it is. Quiet street in a quiet neighbourhood.

Anyway good work on getting that guy off the road. There always seems to be a segment of the population that doesn't listen to anyone for any reason. Therefore removing them from the road is the only option.

That's a beautiful neighbourhood, if I recall. Just a tad south of "Old South". And straight down Ridout from Labatts.

I figured it'd be OK as 99% of you live in Calgary. I don't have anything worth stealing for that road trip to happen!

You got it. It is in "Old South", just outside of Wortley Village.

But . . . But dosen't this kid deserve another chance, I'm sure deep down that he's a good kid that needs his license to work, and dosen't mean to speed, he's just being chased by the ghost of his abusive father or mother or sister or brother or dog or cat or goldfish.
Maybe he's mentally ill, and just needs someone to sit down with him, give him a cookie and tell him that everything is going to be ok, and he dosen't deserve a fine or jail time, but just a massive amount of hugs.
Way to go Frank, you've probably ruined this poor kids self esteem.
