Default Littlest fan's final joy sees Ottawa Senators off to Cup

"In the end, it was a hockey game Elgin-Alexander Fraser was not going to miss.

The three-year-old spent his last hours at home, nestled between family and friends on a mattress on the living-room floor in front of the television watching the Ottawa Senators reach the Stanley Cup finals."

Terribly sad story. I hope the Sens win it all for this little gaffer.

Now I'm all misty eyed.

And THAT is how a game gets woven into the fabric of a nation.

You know it's amazing how much sports can become part of your life. The sense of being part of something that's bigger than you, the joy when you win, even the agony of defeat. I think it makes you a better person. If you play, teamwork and new friends are made. If you don't, the connection of cheering for the same team can be very powerful (anytime that I meet a Flames fan like I am I feel like I've known them my whole life and have been best friends since forever, even if we just met - in part that dervies from where I grew up, stupid Leafs, stupid Habs, and even haha stupid Oilers). It can take your mind off the trying things in life, and even put the more important things into perspective.

I was hoping for Ottawa to win before, now I'll be cheering for them

GO SENS GO

On the news they had all kinds of home video of him playing hockey with his dad in his Sens jersey. It was damn hard to watch.

I always find it hard to watch someone play in a Senator's jersey....but this time it's different.

That last paragraph almost put me over the edge. Sad stuff.

Phillips told Elgin that night that the Senators were going to win the next game on Saturday for him.
They did.
Elgin's funeral will be held on Thursday at the Carleton Place Arena.

Poor little guy....
Go Sens!

Wow, his parents are really brave.

I'm sure that they have had a lot of time to prepare.

Go Sens. For Elgin.

Funny how your mind can be changed in a minute. Before I was indifferent as to who won, but now I'm cheering for the Sens.

You know, it seems like everyone's complaining about NBC, the afternoon games on Saturday, and the fact that Bettman seems to be doing nothing about it.

Rightly or wrongly, BECAUSE it was an afternoon game, Elgin got to watch it.

Quote:
Two hours later, as his mother and father tightly held his hands and told him they loved him, he softly closed his eyes.
I don't know if that could have happened if it was an evening game.

I didn't watch any games after the 2nd round, but I will be watching the finals. Go Sens, do it for the little boy.
