Vs Wsh - backup
Vs Ducks - backup
Vs Knights - backup
Vs Jets - starter
Vs Hurricanes - starter
Vs Wild - backup
Vs Devils - backup
Vs Hawks - starter (Hawks playing 3rd game in 4 nights, having to travel to Edm)
6 losses that surround it:
Vs Lightning - backup
Vs Panthers - starter
Vs Hurricanes - backup
Vs Lightning - starter
Vs Panthers - starter
Vs Islanders - starter
They are 3-4 vs starters and 5-2 vs backups. As long as teams always play their backups they should be back in the playoff race in no time. And if they continue to play their backups in the playoffs definite stanley cup contenders.

The day before their winning streak started, on November 23rd - they were 10 points out of a wild card spot, 7 points out of ninth.
They got their long winning streak...
And now they are 7 points out of a wildcard spot, and have passed only ONE team in the standings. They would need to pass 5 more teams to get into a playoff spot.
They are unlikely to get a winning streak like that again.

I don't think the Oilers can possibly hold onto their 1st round pick this year - plus probably a few other futures. After this season, Draisaitl can be extended or he will be traded. Why re-sign with the Oilers who aren't a good team?
The argument is always about the fact that perhaps the Oilers should trade Draisaitl and round out the team better, but then the counter is that teams will have an easier time isolating McDavid.
It's a completely mismanaged mess with no clear-cut argument as to what will help the Oilers win a cup with McDavid.
Just a fricken hilarious organization, top to bottom, who can't seem to see themselves for what they really are.
"Hey, we are atrocious defensively!"
A HHOF offensive defencemen who was never good in his own zone gets put into a position to teach players how to play defence.
WTF?? It would be like the Flames hiring Jamie Macoun to run the PP. I love Jamie Macoun, and I am sure he could teach players how to play defensive hockey, but he should be nowhere near the PP. How does it make any sense to get someone like Coffey to teach defence to a team that is terrible defensively? Oh, right.. it's the Oilers!

Kurri owns and GMs Jokerit. He's out of their reach.
