Exactly, you're sold on the team contending for a while, being a big piece of their contention window. And the wheels fall off.

And Naz really strikes me as a guy who loves a Large city like Toronto socially speaking. You're not getting the same type of environment in Calgary.

To be fair it was Naz's Neighbour, not Bingos.

Trading Kadri would be easier than trading Huberdeau less time left and lower cap hit, and he looks like he can still go.

For Lindholm the Bo Horvat deal is an easy frame work to use.

For Hanifin the Hronek deal is an easy frame work to use.

Not getting 1sts back would be shocking.

On one hand its too bad if he isn't happy. On the other, if you can move his deal...

Wasn't even my neighbour.

It's a conversation. Someone said he likes it here. I said it was interesting because I'd heard something different.

Not sure why this has bothered you so much. I'm not a guy that just appeared out of nowhere with a rumour. I've been on this site a few times before. Add to that the fact that I framed what I heard in the second post to not put any undue weight on it.

We need to not worry too much about that. Veteran players, who are about to entre or just had the options to earn their close to last and potentially biggest pay day, and select on some level where they want to play..............are often not going to want to play on a team that isn't seen as close to competing for the cup.

Calgary will always have challenges as small Canadian market, but if true about Kadri, it likely has way more to do with the team not being the contender many thought they'd be two offseasons ago, and much less to do with something wrong with the organization and the city.

Is what it is. People are willing to go to Edmonton right now. And sure, having a new arena certainly helps, but outside of my biases, Edmonton is not a more appealing city or organization than Calgary and the Flames...............they just happen to have a chance to win right now with the two superstars they have, and that's what it's about.

We shouldn't get bent out of shape right now if veteran players aren't sure they want to stick around for a rebuild that might take as long as 4 years to finish.......they don't have that kind of time.

I don't think that any NHL player would be happy on a team that seems destined to be in the bottom half of the standings for several years. The only exceptions are young players that are happy about just breaking into the league, and depth players that are just happy to stay in the NHL.

A player like Kadri probably thinks that he has 5-6 more shots at another cup, and he probably doesn't expect to compete for one in CGY for the next 3-4 of them.

Understand all of this, but it's still tiring AF. The fact that 'weather' is often cited too in these scenarios (league-wide issue, not specifically Calgary or Kadri) is such funny irony given these millionaires make their money on ice and a game successful because of cold weather conditions.

Plus does anything in the way that Kadri signed here feel like a destination of choice signing?

Felt more like a music ran out and find a chair move to me.

Seems like he was angling for Long Island and it fell through.

(unfounded opinion)

Could be true but that kind of makes the 7 year term sting all the more.

Did everyone forget this? I don't really care if the team announces they are rebuilding or not but if they continue to be in the bottom of the league then he will want out if possible.

I feel like you are right just because it is Calgary but it can viewed the other way as well. Tre had targeted Kadri multiple times and needed to make a trade to get him on the team. Can argue he was stringing the Islanders along until Tre got the cap space.

Kadri went to the highest bidder. End of story.

Its pretty simple, its been said by numerous hockey minds including Kadri himself.

1. Overall feeling of "meh" in Calgary (much like the Flames org in general)
2. Currently a Flame
3. Wants to compete long term
4. Doesnt want to be part of a rebuild
5. Would likely ask to be traded if flames pivot to a rebuild

TLDR: Kadri wants to be here and enjoys it if we're competing, otherwise he'd like to look elsewhere.

Seravelli and other people were reporting a 7 million offer from the Islanders for a while. It came down to who was willing to clear the cap space assuming he just wanted the money. Tre bit and Lou didn't

People were pretty high on the Flames going into last season, many were picking them to be contenders.... certainly higher ranked than the Islanders.

Truth be told if Huberdeau was a 100 point player they would be a high end team

Last year if they got one more goal here or one more save there they would have been a 100-110pt team. They downgraded coaches this summer and it didn’t help their star player find his game again. While I agree Sutter had to go to give opportunity for the kids he definitely had the Flames on the verge of contending again if Markstrom and Huberdeau would have just been better last year.

Ultimately the org put too much faith into the supporting cast which has proven to be a mistake and the my should have shifted to a rebuild/retool when Chucky forced his way out and Johnny bailed.

Yeah, that was the most hyped the Flames have been in a long time. Should have known they were going to implode lol
