Both are looking great and are known playoff performers, so maybe a contender wants them closer to the deadline.
I like both but if the team does go into some form of rebuild mode, moving one of those contracts and getting back an actual return might be worth it. Particularly Kadri's contract.

Unless the Leafs come calling don't expect Kadri to waive for anyone.

The Flames are not rebuilding, they are retooling. Kadri loves Calgary.

Why would you trade Kadri when he’s finally playing good?

From what I have heard about Kadri he would block it. Kadri is a huge family guy, he has a lot of family that has moved to Calgary when he signed the long term deal. He still has family and friends in the London area so I don't see him rejecting Toronto but I do know he loves Calgary and he really loves playing in Canada. I am sure he would love to win another SC but it isn't a priority anymore, I think a bigger priority would be to bring the Cup back to Canada. I don't think he would waive to go to an American team at this point in his career.

With the assumed increase in the cap for next season my guess is they aren’t going to be dumping all of their UFAs. I would guess one of them will be leaving to help pay for the other two. My guess would be Tanev because he’s the oldest and we have a surplus of defencemen.
Players I think may be dissappearing might be Dube and Mangiapane once Pelletier is back. I’m also curious to see what happens with the goalies. If you really wanted to change the roster I think Markstrom would be the way to do it. Using his salary for a scoring forward would make a big difference. That’s what the Flames are short of.
It will be very interesting to see what eventually happens.

Flames certainly played like the big boss was watching. Great game!
They are fun to watch right now and I can’t ask for more than that.
Makes sense to keep Hanifin long term. Not sure about the older guys. Maybe on value contracts if they take them, but why would they?

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
At this point the Flames aren't going to pay Lindholm what he wanted, and he has one foot out the door anyway so he's really as good as gone. He'll still take a massive paycut based on what was allegedly offered this past summer but he'll also get what he seems to want in another destination.
I still wonder if Hanifin ends up staying, and Edwards being in Calgary could point to him making another push with someone like Hanifin, or convincing him to sign and move elsewhere.

Rebuilding, retooling, meaningless words
If they sell Hanifin and Tanev, they have 2 competent NHL dmen left
Not going to win many games with that for awhile

Gross. Why'd you even want to re-sign Lindholm at this point?

I can’t see this happening. I think if we’re moving anyone it’s defense, goaltending or Lindholm.

Flames will be a bottom ten team for the next three seasons. Hopefully bottom 5.

I could be wrong but I thought I seen somewhere they will try and resign him in the offseason. Could be a mutual handshake between the flames and Tanev to bring him back in the offseason and then hopefully at some point we have Kylington back in the fold. Not earth shattering D but who knows what else they fetch in their trade returns.
I am cautiously optimistic that this can actually be a quick turnaround.

Because he’s a good player. I’d keep him and Hanifin of the three. Don’t think Hanifin wants to come back though.
I have no idea what will happen but I think the best case if the move anyone is moving a goalie or defencemen because we have surpluses there in the system. Maybe not an equivalent. But serviceable players. Especially in net.

I doubt it. Even Iginla didn’t come back. Nobody is going to come back unless nobody wants him, especially if he has success with a new team
Also, please no quick fix for mediocrity

Lindholm looks like he doesn’t want to be here and wants 9+ to stay here if you believe the OJ. Last thing the Flames need is another regressing forward locked up on a big contract for 8 years.
Disagree on the defense replacements. The Flames will be playing four #5/6 dmen when Hanifin and Tanev are traded.

Tanev is a Toronto boy. Treliving is likely going to offer him a contract but I'm not sure about their situation (money coming off the books, Nylander situation, etc) and how much they will be able to offer him.
