This is so predictable with the Craig Berube firing.

It's right out of the Flames 2002 playbook to a tee.

Team A fires coach you have interest in. Team B fires their coach appoints guy from long gone past to be interim coach. Wait to get old Team A coach after he gets over being fired and hire him.

Just need Martin to slip up and talk about playing the Colorado Rockies.

With them naming Martin as the interim coach, it does feel like it might be a situation similar to when the Flames hired Sutter the first time and Al McNeil coached 11 games after Gilbert was fired while they were getting things sorted with Darryl.

They may have wanted to get Berube locked down before someone else grabbed him, but Berube may not want to start until after the holidays.

Sounds like Alfie is going to interim Assist Coach too. Kipper and Bourne leaning heavy that they should hire Roy.

Think Friedman just suggested that the Sens might do a reverse Ted Lasso and hire an unlikelable former Football coach John Gruden instead of a likeable Ted Lasso as head coach? Can this be true?

Roy has been the hot rumour around town for a while, but it’s unclear to me whether it’s fan fiction or has substance. Andlauer was with the Habs a long time, and is big on tradition, so it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he has become enamoured with the idea. Roy would also be the kind of big fish new owners like to lure in early.

At the same time, he’s wildly unpredictable in a way that seems to clash with the way Andlauer and Staios have spoken about establishing stability in the franchise.

I think most likely scenario is that Martin sees out the year and they do a proper search once the GM position has been decided (Martin might be a candidate for that, too)

Jacques Martin is 71. I don’t think he’s a long-term candidate.

He will be an assistant at best, he isn’t an NHL level coach.

His winning percentage suggests otherwise.

He absolutely will get another HC gig.

Different era, different sport, but Connie Mack managed (and co-owned) the Philadelphia A's until he was 87.

Yes, the Buffalo Bills had Marv Levy as GM until he was 82.

He has been an assistant coach since 2013 mainly with the Penguins and was with the Rangers in 2021.
