The ring road is not done until the South Bow River Bridge is completed. And I'll die on that hill! (or valley).

Congrats to the 20 of you who voted 10-20 years in the poll (assuming the south bridge is done in the next 6 years)

The NW sends its thoughts and prayers. While we got the first section of the ring road all those years ago, it has been perpetually under construction ever since. Until just a few weeks ago. Decades!
But now is not the time for grievances. I'll meet you at Stoney and Highway 8 tomorrow and we can symbolically link hands to complete the full circle of friendship between Northies and Southies.

Yeah, the whole point of the ring road is to spend as little time south of the Bow as possible.

Looking forward to seeing the backups on the bridge still under construction once the rest of the ring road opens up

That's a win for the Southies, too! Gotta keep you Northies off our pristine lands.

Not the ring road but a small ring.. they finally opened up the roundabout they were making in Chestermere and twinning Rainbow Road.. which is great, but northbound the signs are kinda confusing.
They have this sign:
But a) there's no lane markings in the roundabout and b) they have THIS lane ends sign before it:
Most people seem to treat the roundabout as a single lane so when someone does treat it as two it seems like it's going to cause an accident. There wasn't time to paint the lane markers in the roundabout and I assume they can't now because of the weather...
Or am I just not interpreting the signs correctly?

I just drove in from Vancouver on the weekend, and wouldn't you know it, people working on construction projects still. At 8pm, in the dark, while snowing. Really trying to get it done as soon as possible. Then there's this damn bridge.

Sounds like another McKenzie Towne ####show. Switching from single to dual entry/exits, some are 2 and some aren't, and we have the same signs but underneath it says left lane / right lane. But those signs are only on some of the entries.
I'm pretty sure Alberta Transportation has no idea how to deal with traffic circles anymore. Same as the drivers.

I'm just shocked there isn't a constant stream of people going down the wrong road!
I will say it is working EXTREMELY well despite some confusion.. places where there used to be a significant backup are empty every time I've seen it.

Re: roundabouts. Even some here in Calgary are ridiculous. Attempts to make them easier with lanes that don't go all the way around, confusing signage, etc. only make them worse. Instead of educating drivers on how to use them, we have made the physical designs worse to accommodate the strugglers.
Just make them one or two lanes all the way around, but stop with this half-assed stuff. The rules are simple and clear:
1. Yield going in.
2. Inside lane has the right of way on every exit (so pick your lane accordingly in advance). That's it.
Signalling is icing on the cake, but let's not get carried away until we get the basics sorted.

Yeah, I don't know why the City makes roundabouts so ####ing complicated with lanes that appear and disappear mid-turn—all of which gets summarily ignored in winter time ANYWAY, because it's all covered in snow & ice!
When I learned to drive the rules were:
- when approaching a roundabout, yield to everyone already in it
- when in it, yield to everybody on your left
- as such, if you're getting off at the next exit anyway, just stay in the right lane, and,
- if you're using any exit other than the very next one, stay in the left lane
If you follow those rules, particularly the latter two, there will be no collisions because you've eliminated any lane-changes cutting across anyone's travel path.

Yeah, there are nuances but that's it.
Meanwhile, yay ring road. I can't wait.

The one off highwood going towards the dome is made paritcularly bad becuase for some reason they have the outside lane not exiting right away which the people entering probably expect.
