Flames Florida Panthers at Calgary Flames 7:30pm TV: SN1,TVA, BSFL - RADIO SN960

With Panthers back in town, Jonathan Huberdeau still hoping to find way out of slump

But Huberdeau is struggling. He’s only got four goals and 11 assists through 31 games this season, which puts him on pace for 39 points over 82 games. That’s not anywhere near what the Flames hoped for when they signed him to a deal that has him under contract for seven seasons after this one at a cost of $10.5 million per year.

MacKenzie Weeger is rolling as he prepares to face his former team when the Calgary Flames host the Florida Panthers

Weegar matched his career high with his eighth goal of the season in Saturday’s win, which ties him for second among all blue liners behind Vancouver’s Quinn Hughes, who has nine tallies.

“I’ve got to let it ride a little bit. I’m just trying to be a threat out there,” he said.

I've always had split allegiances when it comes to these annual meetings, but I think it only makes sense to cheer for a Panthers win tonight. They're clearly a playoff team and the Flames are likely not. It only makes sense to hope for an outcome that further cements that and gets the Flames closer to a high draft pick.

Let's go Panthers! (for tonight only)

Panthers did their job in Edmonton. They can take the night off.

Let the good times roll...

Tonight's tilt not only marks the return of a certain former Flame, but the debut of a NEW member of the Puppet World Order! Last week we met Snowy, today we're introduced to a creation inspired by CP's own Game Day Maestro... CHEESE! This is the first ever creation based on one of our own, and this fantastic fromage teaches the rodent about dining etiquette:

Spoiler!

Go Flames

Haha, amazing! I especially liked the shadow work.

Was he attacking Victor E. Rat?

I did not expect them to beat Tampa on Saturday and I think they ride that momentum into tonight. Big win coming!

It's intended to be Matthew Tkachuk (I now realize I should've put a number on his back to drive the point home), but I guess it works for Victor E too. I really just needed a cliche to introduce the cheese.

Of all the matchups on the schedule this is the one that would be perfect for a Huberdeau breakout game. Beat his old team and give us Flames fans some hope magic could be rekindled. Go Flames!

Hopefully #10 keeps it simple.
1/ Just skate hard and be First to the puck ....its amazing what happens when you move your feet.
2/ show Huska you can be trusted.....in fact prove it. Be a leader .

That's it. I don't expect points . An honest effort where the announcer says your name every time your on the ice making a difference.

And a merry Christmas.....Ho ho Huberdeau

From a draft pick perspective, don't we want a strong Panthers team the next two years at least?

I guess maybe it matters more next year. We'd definitely want the Panthers pick going to the Habs, rather than the Flames own pick, which will likely be very high the next few years.

Boooooooo.

It never makes sense to cheer for a Flames loss. Not ever.

Yeah. I still cheer for wins. The losses are just easier to accept (actually I always accept them because it's just a hockey game, but it's even easier now).

They're only 3 points out of a wildcard spot too with only one more game than Arizona and St. Louis. It's not like they're in Chicago territory even though some wish they were.

It’s another big two points to avoid tonight.

They’re firmly entrenched in the mucky middle, but if you look at goal differential I believe that to be the indicator as to where things will go when players like Zary and Sharongovich chill even slightly. They’ll be overtaken by Edmonton and Minnesota in good time, and then hopefully as the season progresses and players are removed the team lands closer to a top 5 pick than the top 10 pick they’re currently slated for.

Right now the team is sitting in the worst spot imaginable. Not in the playoffs, but within some level of spitting distance. Traditionally this team has always tried to hold and sneak in…I still remain hopeful Conroy makes the intelligent move and trades the pending UFAs sooner rather than later.

Umm. Hard no. Always cheer for the Flames.

Going to be fun watching Chucky on the other side with his antics and elite puck skills in front of the net. Markstrom's return, hope the Flames pull out a win!

I think there's a way to have more day to day fun.

Look at win % and not points then the odd victory won't cause you so much pain.

The Flames are 8th in win percentage for a draft pick, and logically there are four teams that are home and cool for top 5 draft spots. Calgary, Buffalo, Seattle and Edmonton are that next tier.

They should stay in that tier if they keep on the pace we've seen ... win one, lose one, lose on in OT, etc.

They're not on a playoff or just miss pace at all.

I get the draft implications, but also get to be happy when they win, which I like.
