Damn it.
If we're going to lose to the Wild, why can't Fleury be in the net.
T-3 to tie Roy, 4 to surpass.

No they aren't, they don't get us into the play-offs and they just make the draft pick worse. You either want the full 2 points in regulation or a last minute fluke goal against.
Gaining an extra point only serves to hurt our draft position.

They are still 6th in the tankathon so the point had no bearing on the quest for the prize. We see what the defense looks like minus Tanev so when Hanafin and Lindholm are moved this team should plummet hard. May as well enjoy some close games now while we can.

Don't get complaining about Huberdeau being used in the shootout - everyone on the team outside of one guy hasn't scored this year.
He was 4 for 7 in shootouts last year. He's one of the better guys they have on it.

It's the lack of confidence for me. I'd rather a 4th liner or defender that scored earlier in the game take a shot over current huberdeau.

If the season ended today, that would be true, but it doesn't.
Who knows if that point has any bearing at the end of the season.
In any event, for those wanting the highest draft pick possible, any points at any time are bad.

If you think they are going to go the last 52 games without securing the odd win or OTL here and there, you are going to be deeply disappointed.

Not to play devil's advocate but should sharky's shoot out effort have stood? I've noticed he treads the line when he angles back from the left but my understanding was that the puck could go backwards so long as the player is moving level or forwards. Does look like both come back. I am a little naive on the rules though.

The post quoted said it was the ideal outcome. Getting a shoot out loss is not the ideal outcome for any side.
It isn't that I or others think that the team is going 0 for the next 50 games it is that the single point doesn't help us get to the play-offs or improve out draft position if anything it helps keep us in the mushy middle, so it isn't ideal.

Sometimes I’m stunned by how remarkably average this franchise continues to be. We are destined to finish 17-20 overall, it seems.

It’s a loss but they competed well.
Your mileage may differ but I think the value of a team that continues to compete is more than a few draft places.

Right. My purpose in watching the individual games is to be entertained. Why would I even watch the game if I am only hoping for the worst on-ice result?

Teams that play like xxxx today have a high correlation to playing like xxxx tomorrow.

Going for vibes based shootout choices doesn't seem wise to me. If Sharangovich goes into a slump - are you going to pull him out of the shootout even those he's the only guy who ever scores?

Outside of Sharangovich of course, Huberdeau made the best attempt for the Flames on the shootout. Puck was labeled but the goalie got a tiny piece.

Keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity, be better than that.
I don’t care if you rotate through all the D and then Scoringoalvich every 4th round, they would have a better chance.
|
Huska did try different players in the SO.
So far this year we tried: Huberdeau(0/4), Kadri(0/3), ,Zary(0/2), Lindholm(0/1), Andersson(0/1), Dube(0/1).
* Coleman missed on a penalty shot this year, so he's also technically (0/1).
Huberdeau was actually pretty good in the shootout throughout his career. He has the 2nd most SO goals in panther history with 18. He had 4/7 last year.
When we combine the last 2 years:
Sharangovich 3/4 (75%)
Andersson 2/5 (40%)
Huberdeau 4/11 (36.4%)
Kadri 1/9 (11%)
---
Backlund 0/4
Dube 0/2
Zary 0/2
Lindholm 0/1
Ruzicka 0/1
So who do we try? Pospisil? Coleman? Greer? Ruzicka(again)? Mangiapane? Weegar? Hanifin?

Certainly more interesting to watch.
But really question is how long the "rebuild" is going to last and how many of these players/coaches will be part of a team that is competitive again.
I have no idea but cheering for losses is lame and not something I will ever do. Guess I'll just cheer that they do well in the lottery.

Guy is a lost cause and the fact he still can't find a niche on the PP says a lot about it not just being a Flames system thing if you ask me. What would be the defacto for production of any league average, competent NHL player in his role (PP1, 15-20min/night) with some of the teams best players? I would say 40 points and he's possibly not even getting to that.

It may have a bearing on the season end standings which is all that matters.

Since the start of the season, the players all seem to start their approach in the SO by going wide to the side-board before coming back to the centre of the ice; I'm assuming this is a Savard idea since it is copied by all of the players. Time to try something new (except Sharangovich).
