Yeah, so they were planning on re-signing him until Tkachuk became available like I said. They had a whole year to figure it out. You are just making stuff up and treating it like fact lol

Well, it’s not like you have fact
They value him so much that they had to add Weegar and a 1st and a prospect for Tkachuk. That much we know.

Fine. Show me that deal. Until then, how does the team get more out of him?

Huberdeau said his agent approached Zito about an extension and Zito said, yeah yeah sure, we'll contact you at a future date. They weren't exactly in a hurry to get it done, especially after the lousy playoffs he just had.
The Panthers future cap situation at the time meant that they were going to have to either trade a big name or let them walk. Once Tkachuk became available, it became an easy choice. Get rid of 2 expiring contracts, and bring in one guy who is a better player and younger. Maybe one of Weegar or Huberdeau would have ended up being a cap casualty, or maybe not, but it solved Zito from having to make that choice.

Yeah, but that doesn’t mean you can infer with certainty that the Panthers had zero intention of re-signing Huberdeau. The facts are pretty simple. Zito knew Huberdeau wanted to re-sign and had zero time pressure to do sign him because of that. That’s all really anyone knows.

No, I asked you. This is the discussion that’s supposed to be happening in this thread. It’s not a whining session.

I do think at this point I might do this:
- Sit him for one game
- Alter the 4th line into something that might work for him and shelter the crap out of him
Mangiapane-Lindholm-Sharangovich
Zary-Kadri-Pospisil
Greer - Backlund-Coleman
Huberdeau-Dube-Coronato/Pelletier
Think it's at the point where they need to fully break him down to try to build him back up.
His confidence seems shot even worse than last season and he seems even more confused on how to generate offense. He had started to figure it out at 5v5 to end last season but seems to be lost again.

If you 4th line him, give him Greer. I think he’s a shooter given the opportunity.

It's untradeable and you can't buy it out.
They need to figure out a solution. Just making him sit at home in the first year of an 8 year deal would be the absolute worst thing to do.
I do think him sitting in the press box for a game would be the right move at this point though.
And I might try him with Dube as his C at this point. Both guys are struggling and they might be able to spark each other. If there is a player in the team that is similar to what Sam Bennett was as a Flame it's Dube

GOAT!

I mean... there HAS to be a way we can get EDM to pay 50% of his contract. Maybe a 3-way, so they can't figure it out.
To Toronto:
Huberdeau
Bouchard
EDM 2024 2nd
EDM 2024 3rd
To Calgary:
Nylander
Knies
To Edmonton:
50% of Huberdeau's cap hit
